How many 86 owners post here? Just curious, looking to find an original shift knob for mine, should anybody know of one. E-bay has not been good to me lately.

I'm new myself so I'm not sure how many 86's are around. I have 86 #147 and my friend has 86 #97 but I don't believe he's on this board.
I haven't seen many shift knobs pop up but I would try these guys.

they seem to be able to locate most anything if you give them a little time.
Good luck!

I am an '86 Saleen owner. I have #86-012, a fairly low mileage early production car that still sports the '85 ground effects (fiberglass air dam, big wing, rear spats, etc.). The car still has the original 15" Hayashi wheels and the original unused headlight covers still in it's original protective tape. It even still has the original Kenwood tape deck and 4 spoke Wolf steering wheel. If I can figure out how to post pictures, I will try and post pics of all 5 of my Saleens.

My 86 Saleen #26 was the magazine car for Mustang Illustrated. Although the 86's didn't get the 86 ground effects until somewhere around #45. But my car got the prototype body kit for 86 out of sequence, for the photo shoot.
Funny thing though. Hib Halverson who did the review of the car had an off-road excursion with the car and destroyed the 86 air dam. Since it was the only 86 Air Dam that Saleen had at the time, they replaced it with an 85, and sent the car off to Galpin Ford in the San Fernando Valley.
Galpin then used the car as a promo, giving it to Saugus Speedway as a pace car -- all of the pace car photos have it wearing an 85 Air Dam and the rest of the 86 body kit!!!
By the time I go the car, somewhere along the way an 86 air dam had been placed on the car, likely when they repainted it after the pace car abuses from a whole season, and the painted on pace car markings.
It's real interesting to follow what Liz at Saleen told me in pictures!!! The story matches up.

Hey - thats pretty cool!!! Mine is down right now for a rebuild. I put a 100 shot NOS on it with a Paxton supercharger and it was getting a little weak with 180k miles on it. I cant wait till its back up and running.
Take it easy.

I'm a previous 85 5.0 GT owner now getting back into these great cars, but want a Saleen.
I need 10 mins on the phone with Saleen gearhead that understands the older Saleens vs new Saleens. I'm being offered a pristine 21k mile 1986 Saleen (#91) for $12k and a 2000 (#892) for low 20's.
I need to know if the 86 or the 2000 are both rock'n roll animals with the right frame mods and suspension that these cars should have
You can call me in Maryland (301) 654-3751, or email me (mrc.engr@verizon.net ) with your tel # and I will call you.
Thanks Guys.

Nice to see an old thread revived! Any other 86 owners here? I'm on my third: 86-120, a Canyon red/gold graphics (and wheels), tan interior hatchback formerly owned by the late Gary Alsobrooks (aka Bigwingsaleen). It's in the process of a freshening up until such a day as it can get a full ground up resto.
Post up some pics if you have them, here's mine: right after I brought it home (and after I cleaned up the interior a bit below):

I had to replace the front bumper cover due to damage when the spoiler was installed:

But finally here she is:

Still needs a paint job and some decal replacement but it's getting closer!

I want to buy an 86 saleen vert... or build a clone. I'd rather own a saleen, because The 86 is what made me fall in love with mustangs... So anyone know of any 86 verts for sale(doubt they'll be saleens, but any good 86 5/5 vert will do)
edit: I would love pics of any 86 vert anyone might have. I followed the link above but I think it was an old one...

This is my 86-068. Original owner with 10,000 miles, original paint and interior. It was special ordered as a stripped down Mustang from Ford and drop shipped to Saleen for the Saleen conversion. Car was bought to compete in SCCA Solo II. Car has a National 1st place win, numerous NorthEastern Divisional, Central Divisional, numerous Regional, numerous State Chamionship, and more wins in the E Street Prepared class. These are some of the pictures I have of it thru the years it has competed so far.

Those pics are AWESOME! Now if I could only find one for myself. A Saleen would be awesome, but I'd settle for a good foundation 86 5/5 vert GT/LX.... anybody have any leads please hit me up. I"m paying cash, but I'm not looking for a concourse car or a trash pile...
edit: it will end up being a Saleen "tribute" car. Mostly with the bodykit, and wheels. Suspension and powertrain are going to be my own mix... but the car will have the class of 86 Saleens...

I have owned 5 86 Saleen's
86-0049, Black hatch, factory GT sold to a guy Kansas at the end of last year.
86-0081, Grey hatch, sold to a guy here in Oregon, will finally be shipping out here soon.
86-0102, White hatch, this is one that I drive on occasion, no plans on selling it.
86-0156, White hatch, this is a car that my parents bought new, no plans on selling this one either
86-0177, White hatch, sold to a guy in Kansas a year and a half ago, and has been beautifully restored.
The owner of 177 will be helping on the restoration of 49
A friend of mine here in Oregon also owns 86-0160, Black hatch. So there are 6 more accounted for.

Hey! You purchased the Sassy Green one!
NOS or nice used 1984 and 1985 exterior kits are nearly impossible to find. Sometimes these pieces can be found on lesser Mustangs of the era. The 1984 & 1985 kits were not a Saleen Autosport designed item. Spoiler Plus and A&A were two of the suppliers.

New here obviously. Thought I would add another one to the tally, 86-164 white with blue graphics. My dad bought it in 1987 as his first new car, and it has since been passed to me. It currently sits with about 9100 miles (no typo) and completely original.
86-0164 sounds terrific! Welcome to the forums!

86-107 had an early demise secondary to an electrical defect. Burned up in the backyard in southern CA ~ 1988.
3 door hatch. Black with silver stripes. Grey GT interior. Grey 16" Riken wheels with BFG Comp TAs replacing the General XP2000V. ~18k.
Prior history: Car was in a severe front/passengerside accident and mostly rebuilt. New front air dam, new rear valance. Kaufmann under drive pulleys. Kaufmann Slick Shift fluid.
