Saleen to Honor American Racing Legend Parnelli Jones with New, Limited Edition Mustang

Saleen will be paying homage to American racing icon Parnelli Jones at this week's New York Auto Show with the unveiling of a 370-horsepower limited edition Mustang reminiscent of cars that Jones drove to the checkered flag.

Jones is one of the most recognizable names in auto racing and has won nearly every major auto race event in the U.S., including the Indianapolis 500. During his legendary career, Jones won six races and 12 pole positions in Indycar racing. Among those victories was a win at the Indianapolis 500 in 1963, just two years after he was named Indy's co-Rookie of the Year. The ever versatile Jones also won the 1964 USAC stock car championship, and claimed four wins, 11 top-10 finishes, and three pole positions in 34 races on the NASCAR circuit. He also won titles in the SCCA Trans Am Series and Baja off-road racing circuit. Jones was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990.

Details of these limited edition Mustangs will be public later this week, so stay tuned!

Parnelli Jones was indeed at the press conference... word from Saleen is that they had the largest attendance of press ever.

And what's interesting to me is, that the press "gets it" -- the whole concept that the car retains the spirit of the Trans Am series racer.

Look on... read... watch... http://www.saleen.com/saleen-parnellijones.htm
