My 88 Saleen's flofit seats are leaning backwards. From what I understand this is common with these seats. I would like to keep them but want to fix this issue, does anyone how I can fix this?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I think it's more of a function of the Fox platform than the seats.

One fix that seems to be common on Foxes is using a large fender washer.

Do you mean the floor boards are the issue not the seats?

Right. My Fox mustang (not a Saleen) had a similar problem, and in fact was leaning to the left and back... everyone else I knew had similar problems in the mid-80s.

Really? I got to admit this is the first time i have it. So if I pull the seat I would able to confirm this.

All I know is the solution all the dealers seemed to have was to remove the back bolts and insert the appropriate number of fender washers... complete seat removal wasn't necessary.

Keep in mind that I don't have first-hand experience with the FloFits, but this may be the easiest solution to your problem -- which likely is with the floorpan and not the seats.

Thanks for the enlightenment. I will give it a try.

I thought that the seat backs are weak and the either bend or break the internal part of the seat. They bend toward the center of the car.

Yes, this is the case with my seats they are leaning to the center of the car. It was my understanding the seats tend to do this after a period of time. However I had not checked the floorboards previously. I did look at them last weekend and was able to confirm the issue is with the seats not the floorboards.

I spoke to a Saleen owner that had this problem and he had his seats repaired when they were reupholstered. My seats do need to have the skins repaired so this is the route I will have to take.

Since other Saleen owners have encountered this issue I expected to find some details on the subject. A "how to" thread on this issue or something that help us understand the repair required. I don't know if a portion of the seat back frame is reinforced or replaced? How much time and money this repair should take?

this is not something entirely new. the metal frame in the flofits are not the strongest. my 87 driver seat also had a similar issue to what is described. i did have the advantage of living in southern cal and used to work for saleen at the 4955 hunter st, anaheim hills factory.

however, this occured in the mid-90s after recaros were being used and i left the co. (summer college job on the 89 saleen production line).

seatsource.com (riverside, ca) still carries flofit seats. you can either get a new seat (not bad in pricing), but you won't be able to get the original saleen cloth. i know the 2 girls who used to work and do all the saleen upholestery work and they had some of the original cloth left to repair my seats. it's been long discontinued.

i had the internal metal frame welded together and then new flofit foam installed (purchased from seatsource). seats are firm and look like new. 87 didn't have lumbar and i also had that installed at that time.

good luck.

This is definately a seat frame problem, and not a floor pan problem. The seat frames in many of the Fox bodies are weak (LX/GT seats, and the Flofits in the Saleen), and I have seen many do the home-boy lean. Mine were like that when I got the car, so I took them apart and welded 'em up, but didn't get 'em quite straightened enough. Quite frankly, those flimsy seat frame pans suck!

I need to pull 'em down again this winter and this time I plan on fully straightening them, the welding some more "beef" to the frame. Don't know exactly what I'll do, but will come up with something...

Good luck,
