Whats in the car now? I would go with some autolite or ngks that are one heat range colder than factory. Just copper plugs, none of the platinum stuff. The old 95 cobra R and lightings came with the same 351 engine....just no vortech.

Hi, just wanted to add that I went with the Denso Iridium Power Spark Plugs specifically the IK27. The equivellant to the NGK's that came with the car with heat range and all are the IK20's. These plugs perform extremely better than the copper stuff. From what I've read around, most Saleen owners like myself are switching to Iridium but Denso has perfected already what others are trying to achieve.

The iridium's are a waste of money. Autolite racing 3924's if my memory is correct for your car. The Cobra R's and lightnings use iron GT40 heads. You need a different plug with the TFS. Heat range is also and issue. I have ran the 24's for years. I spent two days on a chassis dyno playing with the tune and the plugs a few years back and have stuck with the 24's since. Used them in both race motors and stock.

The 95's came with Edelbrock heads which require 14mm x 3/4" reach plugs. I also run the autolites in mine and I believe 3924 is the correct number but I am traveling this week and can't verify.

Which 95 do you own?

Remember to run the gap closer than what the book says. .025 to .030. Otherwise you run the risk of blowing the spark out.

Hi 505s351,

I pulled the Original plugs of my 1998 S351 (only has 9K miles on it) and the plugs are NGK, the gap from factor for the NGK is .035. Just passing on the information.

I went ahead and installed the autolite 3925 with a gap of .035 car runs just as great as the NGK.

With regards to the look the AutoZone guys gave you, same here they had a hard time understanding that my car need different oil filter, so I decided not to buy it from AutoZone and will go with the Motorcraft one it has one , will need to go to a Ford Dealership to pick that up.

Regards,
Joe

Hi Joe, if you are going to the dealer and want to use genuine Motorcraft parts and you are looking for the oil filter it's Part Number is FL-300 or PH16 if you go with FRAM but highly recommend the Royal Purple 20-253 which are made for extreme endurance which means they will resist the extreme pressures put on by our kind of engines - also they filter out better than the stock filters and work better with synthetic oils. I use the 21 racing royal purple oil or otherwise also known as the 5w30 XPR racing oil also from Royal Purple. Car runs great with this stuff.

Spark Plugs: Everyone is sticking with the copper plugs which I've used as well NGK, Autolight but I've found better throttle response from the DENSO IK20's which is the equivalent heat range of the NGK BCPR6E's that come with the 98 Saleen Speedsters that's because those were the plugs that were coming out big back in the day and that was the best they had now it's DENSO that's taking over the new car market. If you want to go colder there are IK24 and IK27 (wouldn't go past IK27) depending on what you've done to your ride. Check out they're technology online and see for yourself. Let me know if you need part numbers for the ignition coil (MSD), sparkplug wires from Taylor (original manufacturer's of the Saleen spark plug cables) and Optima Battery (Best Cranking Power).

Jose
