Very hard to find any information. This is the best website so far.
I am looking at a 98 Saleen S281.
The VIN # 1FAFP42X7WF176675
Curious if there is any way to see if it is a real saleen, and perhaps what options were ordered on it.
Also, I cannot find this car in any appraiser, I.E. KBB etc.
What would be a fair value on this car... it is a 98 Saleen S281 in pretty good conditions with 98k on the clock.
Thanks in advance.
Matt
Hi Matt, welcome to the forums!
The best way to tell if a Saleen vehicle is real, contact Janice Anene (janice.anene@saleen.com) at Team Saleen. Tel: 248-743-6429
Have the complete Ford VIN and Saleen production number handy.
Team Saleen can tell you the original Saleen options, selling dealer, and production break downs.
Saleen vehicles since 1987 have both an interior serialization plate and an engine compartment production tag.
If you're getting serious with Saleen vehicles, then purchase a copy of The Saleen Book by Brad Bowling, it's a must. Nice articles, photo history, and a printed Saleen Registry. Brad's website: http://www.bradbowling.com/
Looking at the Saleen Registry I see three 1998 S281s that had Ford VINs ending in 675. (The registry doesn't print full VINs.)
First:
98-0070 - Coupe. Options - 3.55:1 gears, chassis brace, Mag wheels.
Second:
98-0079 - Convertible. Options - vented hood, Mag wheels, tire upgrade, Saleen leather, twin gauge pod, Speedster, black top.
Third:
98-0128 - Convertible. Options - chrome wheels, 3.55:1 gears, Speedster, Ford leather, black top.
NADA has used Saleen values: http://www.nada.com/ (http://www.nada.com/)
Also contact Greg at the Saleen Locating Serivce for insight on purchasing a Saleen: http://www.saleenls.com/
Hope some of this was helpful. Good luck, best wishes!!!

Thanks a bunch.
Would you have any idea what it would be worth with 98k miles? Car is pretty clean in and out.
The first match, matches the car. It's number is 0070. That is awsome.

I'll shoot on the low side. Maybe $9,000-$12,000.
The 1996-1998 S281s are incredible buys right now. It seems the Fox cars before it and the New Edge Mustangs that came after overshadow them.
I would look at the overall condition of the vehicle, paper trail / documentation, and location.
Content and equipment can also play a part. Most Saleen Mustangs tend to be Red, White, Black…or Red, Silver, Black… so if there’s a desire to have a Green one that’s when the pickings become slim.
98-0070 features neat equipment. The 3.55:1 gears are nice to have, the 2-point chassis brace (roll bar) looks cool, and the Speedline Magnesium wheels are exotic. The Magnesium wheels are delicate, so I would look those over, that’s if they still remain with the car. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re MIA.
