I still say it needs something.

That is the same stripe I have seen on the cars that install the shaker hood. I think it looks good on the white car. I just worry after a few years will the stripe get dull. Looks good though.........

It's the racecraft stripe on the side that he Photoshopped out of the photo.

Using a synthetic wax on the hood -- and often -- would help keep it looking good.

I once had a 85 mustang gt 5.0 with 63,000 miles on it. yes 63,000 original miles and sold it that had the decal on the hood and I could never get it to stay nice. oooo the good old days. Know I have a 06 saleen. hehehehehehe :biggrin: getting ready to had the stage 1 from JDM........

I once had a 1986 GT vert with 16,000 miles on it about 4 years ago. The hood decal was perfect. The main thing is to NOT wax it or anything since that is the way it was from factory. Now as for the ones on the RC, I don't know if waxing it would be a good idea IMO.

I wanted a stang that I could just turn the key and go. With the 85 I had it had some cam and a 650 double pump and it was really a nice car but I was ready to move on to the saleen. I attached a picture but it's too small on the 85 I had. Sold her for $9,500. totally redone to almost original except with a few mods to the motor. MSD and stuff.

FWIW, my emphasis was on modern synthetic wax products (newer than 1986), like FX SynWax or FX Spray Wax -- neither of which has traditional cleaners. Longterm reports on these products prove them successful.

Again, one would want to stay away from traditional cleaners, especially if it has a porous, rough or matte surface (regardless if it's a decal or paint), as it would affect the look of the finish as well as tend to chalk once it dried.

Alternatively, one could use a protectant on the decals and buff it off to a matte sheen, but waxing with a synthetic wax is easier.

Likewise with black paint and accent graphics on the PJ.

I am still trying to find a good wax for my torch red saleen. I have tried mothers but really didn't like how it turned out. What wax is best for a red car? any suggestions?

My decal wasn't mint, so I used to go over it with wax, then a detail spray, to even out the tones.

I am still trying to find a good wax for my torch red saleen. I have tried mothers but really didn't like how it turned out. What wax is best for a red car? any suggestions?

A recommendation on paint care products isn't so much determined by color, but by the condition of the paint, the time you want to invest, your application method and your expectations.

The results can be determined by prep (including claying) as well as technique.

As for Mothers, they make a lot of different products. I find FX SynWax easy to use, offers some glaze benefits (which helps to fill spiderwebbing) and buffs off easily even in the sun. Their 3-step system using Pre-Wax Cleaner, Sealer & Glaze and Pure Carnauba Wax is great, too, but obviously more work. A 1-step Cleaner Wax can be good if you need some polishing, but it lends itself more to lighter colors than reds and blacks if you need extra steps.
