View Full Version : Saleen Production Number 6
There have been "rumblings" about the Dark Horse preproduction vehicle with the number of "06" that was on display during the Queen Mary Show.
This was the same preproduction DH that wore number "01" during the media/ track day event a few weeks ago.
The sticker swap for Queen Mary was a form of executive humor.
Those at the track day for the Dark Horse unveiling, or spied photos of the event, should have noticed the pre-production/media Sterling Edition hanging around with a "00" bumper number.

Evidently this is such a controversial topic that nobody wants to chime in.
The number "01" appeared on the dash plaque and on the bumper for the press unveiling at Willow Springs on September 24, held in conjunction with the Midnight Club launch event.
Typically "01" would be a normal number assignment for a "press" car.
After that event, the bumper number was changed to "06" prior to the vehicle being put into "press fleet" duty (the dash plaque was unchanged).
Not sure what the thought was on the timing of the bumper number change, but the ultimate reasoning Mark Patrzik told me at the Queen Mary show on October 5 was something to the effect of the company was wanting to start some new traditions. I can respect when it doesn't trounce on old traditions, but that's just me.
It is difficult to say if making an "06" car is a positive thing, when the tradition was never to make one -- a decision Steve Saleen made after a clerical error was revealed that car "06" was accidentally omitted, and re-typing (remember typewriters?) a stack of paperwork would have been a time-consuming task.
The fact of there never being an "06" car has always been a beloved bit of Saleen trivia that can often identify a true enthusiast.
If they in fact make an "06" Dark Horse and release it for sale will be interesting... the change of a decal is perhaps just an experiment.

I put the bumper number on, it didn't really match cause they used lighter decals for the black... anyways a few days later we noticed the 6 had magically disappeared somewhere along the way, don't know if it came off or someone took it off...
Who knows if it will go back on the car...

Jim, I am also a traditionalist and hope they don't change. So lets hear it:
No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6
No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6
No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6
No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6
No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6
No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6 No #6
To me, I think it was done to just raise a few eyebrows.
It’s interesting though that the Sterling Development Car looks to have gained a serialization plate and the “00” bumper number.
So, that makes 27 of a run of 25. Interesting. (25 street cars, 1 drag car, 1 preproduction.)
