I thought Parnelli Jones had #1. Then again this one is listed a 1 of 1 of the 2006 model...must be the prototype.

He is suppose to have car #1 but maybe that is of the actual 2007 production.... Being the prototype for the PJ, this car is actually the 1st PJ built but not really part of the production of the PJ's.

To my knowledge, this one has never had a bumper number. If I recall correctly, if it has a dash plaque, that too has no number.
In other words, it's not one of the 500.

This is definitely a collector, but has likely been abused in its 12k miles...

I know when I saw it up at Troy in Aug for the Dream Cruise and a few other times I was up there picking up vehicles there was never a bumper number on it... It did not have a dash plaque from what I remember.

We all know about the US and for all intent and purposes the more or less global finanical malaise, recession, depression (according to the drive by media of course) so are these prices and others a result or contributing factors of the above or are Saleens in general a bad investment. I always thought in general terms vehicles, boats etc. were the worst "investment" anyone on earth could ever make that is why I drive/race them and not turn them into trailer queens (each to their own of course!). Just curious what the rest of this forums participants might think is all..

New Saleen vehicles usually take a hit during the first two or so years. The S197 vehicles got wrapped in the 2007-08 financial meltdown as well. Overproduction and a loss of "toy money" (and easy financing) helped to push the value down.
At the moment, any of the late-model Saleen vehicles are a great buy. With some 2007-09s still in dealer inventory waiting for a first owner.

I acquired the car recently and had saleen authenticate it- it is officialy car #00 - on the firewall plaque it is listed as show S302PJ 07-0000 Show Car #1 - a prototype first car built and shown at the new york auto show and elsewhere and the one used for all the brochures and marketing photos . It is a 2006 - miles are correct but most were on the vehicle before it was transformed into a PJ . Also has a dash plaque "S302PJ 07-0000", was told many of the parts are prototype one off pieces that were used to create the production parts.

Thanks for the info.
Great to know what happened to the 'prototype' PJ.
