View Full Version : Truck in for service...

I dropped the truck off at our local Saleen dealer today. Unfortunately, the woman I usually leave my truck with is no longer employed there. I really liked her, she always went to bat for me with Saleen.
I mentioned the fuel line TSB that is out and the service tech said that they are only fixed if I am experiencing problems! I asked, politely, that he call Saleen and make sure that I did not have a problem.
Apparently, Ford no longer uses Mobil 1 Synthetic oil (my oil of choice). The only use motorcraft or Royal Purple.
Lastly, I mentioned the vibration and pinion angle. They are looking into that for me. We will see what they say.
As I was being shuttled off the lot, I saw a black S331 on the lift...the same one that the owner tracked me down in the HD parking lot and told me about.

What is the name of the dealer that the truck is at? I will figure out what is going on for you.
The fuel rail needs to be inspected and if found to have the date code on it that is recalled then it will need to be replaced. This is a recall not a tsb so it does need to be at least inspected to verify.
Thank you
Jess

Jess -- thanks for checking on this.
Light02atl -- as we notified you in December, your particular S331 wasn't listed among those clearly identified in the recall. The inspection will certainly clarify any doubt.

Admin, I told the dealer it was a recall, rather than a TSB. I know we discussed that truck 257 had an issue and truck 259....but not my 258. Better safe than sorry.
Jess, I left a message for Bill V @ Saleen to see if he could do something about it. The name of the dealer is Team Ford in Marietta, GA. My service tech's name is Josh. I mentioned that I have a vibration on acceleration from the rear and the recall on the fuel line.

Saleen has never heard of a bad pinion angle on these trucks. Except for ONE case when someone was towing a REALLY heavy load.

Jess, you have half dozen or more people right here in this forum complaining about rearend vibration on takeoff. Whether or not they have brought it to their dealers attention, I do not know. Additionally, whether the dealer brought it to Saleen's attention, I do not know. That very well could be the case.
I do, however, know that there is a TSB for shudder/vibration on take off on 2006-2007 F150s.
I am just hoping that if my shuttering/vibration problem is not fixed that it doesnt cause bigger problems down the road.

Truck is ready....
Dealership said there is nothing wrong with the rearend. So, I guess the vibration I feel and everyone else feels on take off is a figment of my imagination. I guess the TSB out there for vibration on takeoff is also null.
OH well, we will see how the truck is in 20k miles.

Hmm, well atleast I know I wasnt imagining that vibration.....i just got the truck so all the issues you guys have found Im still learning about and are unaware of. Anything you might can throw at me to expect that you guys have already dealt with or been experiencing would greatly be appreciated. One thing I have noticed is that my fan seems to constantly turn on and off.....way more than I would think that it should. Is this something normal with the 331 or is mine doing something it shouldnt be? Its not running hot ar anything that I have noticed, just seems to kick off and on alot for no apparent reason. truck is bone stock and has nearly 7k miles on it now.

Your fans are standard, there is a mod from Saleen that removes the elec fans and replaces it with a stock fan, this only looses 3 / 4 hp (so Saleen says) I have the kit for mine but its not fitted yet.

your fans will turn on and off in same manner as you will hear your ACC relay click on and off, as soon as it does your fans will turn ON as well.
To me it seems a bit too much as well specially because we usually don't have really hot weather here.
But to answer your question, yes it is normal.(at least on mine with the JDM kit)

You mean, Saleen takes off the more expensive electric fans that aid in gas mileage and HP and replace it with a less expensive unit that puts more of a load on the engine.
I still dont understand why other electric fans on the market work just fine, but Saleen's solution is to replace an expensive part (that we paid for when we bought our trucks) with an inferior, cheaper part. I know this is laughable, but we should be getting a little refund if they replace the electric fans.

thanks Hennie. I also am finding on here that it is apparently normal for the truck to surge at shifting and that you can send it back for a reflash. Heres my question...what exactly did they do to the program when you send it back and how did it effect the truck? Is anybody that sent theres back to reflash it unhappy tha tthey did I guess is what Im getting at? It is pretty dam annoying and Im sure its hurting the gas mileage, just curious if anybody has noticed any other change in the truck when they got it reflashed. theres always the possibilty of sending it to troyer or jdm and getting a dyno tune rather than a reflash. Im not interested in changing the blower pulley or any other upgrades, just want the truck to run right and what its capable of. I just got rid of a modded out lightning to get this truck, Im over the whole make it as fast as you can crap these days. Just want a sweet looking truck with respectable power that I can be proud of and not have to worry about it blowing up because its been modded, tuned, ported blah blah blah like my L was. Heres the other thing, My truck has 7k miles on it but the warranty is fixing to run out due to the 3 year mark. The previous owner never had taken it in to have any recalls or anything done to it (im aware of the fuel line\rail recall and have that paperwork in hand) so what do i need to get checked or fixed before the warranty runs out? You guys know way more abou tthis thing than I do right now and I dont wanna miss out on getting something fixed for free due to not knowing there was a problem. please help, i have like 6 months left.

Welcome from a fellow X-Gen 2 lightning owner.
Personally, I would send the computer to Saleen to get a good flash on it. You will not see an improvement in power, maybe a little in mileage, but all of your surging and bucking will stop. After that, you could get an xcal2 and some tunes from Troyer or JDM. I had one from JDM, and wanted something changed in it, but could never get Jim to answer me back about changing it...so, I switched tuners and went with Mike Troyer. At least after you change your tune, you will still have a good saleen tune for when you take your truck in for service.
