-what are the entry level prices? The car looks great but I have to admit I'm somewhat relieved to see it's not worlds apart from what I've already got!! Am I crazy or is there not there much difference between 09-10 stangs?

The roof and basic structure are the same on the 2010 Ford Mustang as the 2005-09. The exterior of the '10 Mustang is a complete reskin with a new interior. Seat frames are basically carryover.
The SMS car brings a familiar look to the 2010 Mustang.
Yes David... post some specs and photos when your white car arrives.

This is exactly what I expected, but yet I'm surprised. I knew that Steve and Phil Frank would not let me down. I wish I owned one. This car makes my day !

It being late October, is there any news on this badboy? White would look good on the 460!

I agree. If I were to order a display vehicle... white, blue chevrons, gold calipers and a "32" on the bumper would be fun!

Would love to see one of these cars for real and not just artists renderings. How long is it gonna take to see an actual car? First we heard August, then September, now it's the end of October and still no 460. Would love to see an actual car, so all of us owners, fans and enthusiasts can make honest and educated comparisons between the 460/460X and the S281. It seems that although we had heard the 460/460X was being built/released earlier it has not come to fruition. It appears the competition the S281 is going to be ready at SEMA and is on the time schedule that was presented as early as last September 08. Does this mean any 460/460X Mustang ordered from SMS will be a car that will be built on a very slow timetable? If so,this will aggravate patrons that would want a car on a strict timetable. If you are willing to pay handsomely to be one of a "few", a timely build hopefully will be in order.
Steve Saleen is a confident showman... preview of the production SMS 460 and 460X won't be leaks... they "rumble" in-person.
The 2010 S281 is not the SMS 460 competition. MJA/SPV will compete with Roush Performance Products. The SMS cars are step above.
SMS tooled the 570 & 570x first. MJA did not have a car in the time-frame the 570 debuted. The 435 S was nothing in terms of product planning. Old Saleen parts, CDC parts and some embroidery.
Also, the SMS vehicle are produced in-house while the MJA builds are farmed-out to contractors. Both have different manufacturing set-ups and different expenses.

Boy Dave, it just seems to me it is one SPV attack after another. As far as everyone else is concerned except yourself and a few loyalists, the S281 IS THE ONLY COMPETITION. I am sure the 460/460X Cars are fine automobiles but to speak about the S281 the way you have is very one sided and there is certianly with predjudice involved. The S281 from first glances seems to be quite a fine automobile as does the 460/460X. Why don't you give SPV some due also, is it because you personally have a dispute with Jess at SPV? It certianly seems so. I suppose SS doesn't outsource anything also from other vendors, the SMS Supercharger (Lysholm), Big Brake Kits ( Stoptech), we could go on and on. As far as outsourcing the labor from what I know JDM did extensive R+D work and helped extensively with the S281. I cannot speak about any other outside sources of labor and fabrication. But if you are referring to JDM they (JDM) are a SALEEN SPEEDLAB facility which BTW was used when Steve Saleen was with the company also, so that whole outsourcing thing goes out the window. Why don't you let the numbers, performance and styling speak for THEMSELVES INSTEAD OF BERATING THE COMPANY AND VEHICLE BECAUSE OF SOME PETTY PERSONAL PREDJUDICE. I guess Jess is sick and tired of getting browbeat but I have no personal gain by writing in this forum other than giving an alternative view. Whatever AXE your grinding is not an alternative view it is detrimental to everyone involved, as there are other viewpoints other that your jaded ones on this forum. Now I guess it is time to close this thread also.

I like Jess and will have soda-pops with him at anytime. Your comment is not true. I truly believe we would be fine in the same space together.

I love JDM and the Jim's. They are welcome here or anywhere and I can't recommend their services and parts enough to members and enthusiasts.

Outsourcing the final build is when you take a chassis, drop it off at the local shop and pay to convert it. MJA made their choices and connections over the past year.
Go SMS, Go!!! And here's to the next generation of REAL Saleen Mustangs!!!

First, I'd like to say spoken like a politician... your definition of outsourcing is way offline. I love the way that you keep undermining the SPV effort (BTW I'm sure Jess feels the same way as you do about him, but I should not speak for him, sorry Jess!) while championing SMS. SMS you are telling everyone does everything in-house and has nothing done by outside vendors... yeah OK. BTW there's a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you also. Please, ALL automakers outsource to some degree. Welcome to the world of capitalism, and supply and demand.

05 Mineral Grey S281,
As has been stated, the SMS 460 will certainly come soon, and you'll certainly know when it is here. Many are anxious, just like you. You could say that it's like a fine wine... I have been patient, and I will continue to be, and hopefully you will be too.
Last I heard was October was the date, but obviously that's not the case. When they're ready, we'll know.
That it's not here on your schedule is obviously frustrating to you, though you don't need to be so negative that it's not here yet.
On another subject, as a relatively new member of the hobby, it appears it is very difficult for you to understand the points made by those who have followed this 25-year-old brand for almost as many years. Perhaps you have been misinformed or have misinterpreted the history. I suggest you read more, try to understand more, and it might make sense -- and you can agree or disagree, but you also don't have to argue it ad nauseum if you don't agree.
Keep in mind that there's something to the cars that have Steve Saleen's DNA. Many enthusiasts understand the Saleen DNA, and seek it.
And similarly, there are many of us who have intimate details of the companies involved, their relationship with SOEC, and perhaps the frustrations shouldn't be brought out here, but sometimes our emotions get the best of us.
See, SOEC is here to serve the owners and enthusiasts. We're not here to serve MJ, or even SMS for that matter -- though as individuals we can choose who we admire.

Jim, going off the subject thread you mentioned that I am new to the hobby, I would guess you mean owning a Saleen??? Well let's start this off I am not trying to be negative but the constant needling because I have differing opinions than others that seemingly run this forum. I have owned Mustangs for thirty years so I guess that makes me some what knowledgeable on the breed as far as being new to owning a Saleen- in '85 I was shopping for a new Mustang, I looked at the GT, to me it was OK but not great, I looked at the Saleen which was in my opinion not even close to being worth it's high price tag because even though it looked great, it was not that impressive of a performer. Then I drove the Mustang SVO, the SVO was for the day, one of the best handling pony cars ever and with a little tweaking of the Turbocharger it ran circles around the Saleen for thousands less. The styling of the SVO was the prototype of the Mustang for years to come. In '85 thousands of dollars was a lot of money and the SVO was simply a better car for less money. So please don't call me a novice I've been around the block having owned 25-30 different models of the Mustang. Of course I will hear think about how valuable that '85 Saleen is now. For myself, it has never been about an investment or for that matter collectability. It has always been about the car that I enjoy driving and being proud to be an owner of. I have always been a proud owner of this breed of car (Mustang) and that was when times were good and when they were bad, and I will continue to do so, albeit where I go next. ( SMS, SPV, Shelby or maybe Ford). First off, let's give thanks that we have such a great car ( Mustang) to have these debates over.

Jim, going off the subject thread you mentioned that I am new to the hobby, I would guess you mean owning a Saleen??? (deleted 314 extraneous words not really related to my answer)
Yes, I mean being a Saleen Owner or being a Saleen Enthusiast.
I am a Saleen Enthusiast, just to be clear. I don't own a Saleen. Luckily this club is for Owners and Enthusiasts.
But I have had my toes in the Saleen hobby starting about 22 years ago, and knee-deep (off and on) since about 1996. Some could say that since April 2006, I've been up to my eyeballs.
So while my participation in the Mustang hobby started 23 years ago when I bought my SVO, I'm a little newer to the Saleen hobby.
But over the years, I've worked dozens of Saleen events -- corporate and enthusiast. I've talked to hundreds of owners and prospective owners. I've met countless Saleen owners. And I've seen dozens -- if not hundreds -- of employees and executives enter and exit the building at one time or another. One manager was a part-time roommate of mine. I remain in contact with about a dozen ex-employees regularly, or see on a regular basis. And I've spent the equivalent of probably months of work days at various Saleen facilities in Southern California.
I think it's safe to say I have a pretty good grasp on the past 20 years of the hobby and the people who participate in it.
In a conversation at a car show today, where I visited with several Saleen owners who are longtime owners and longtime enthusiasts, I think it can be said that a lot of the attraction of a Saleen is intangible; in other words, you can't objectify it. In other words, in an accounting sense, it doesn't make sense.
A lot of these longtime owners not only feel a tie to their cars, but they feel a connection with the Saleen family -- that is something that is intangible. It's also something you don't get with any other Mustang.
You seem to try to make sense of your car purchases. Like that a Boss 302 made a lot of sense to you because it was relatively inexpensive at the time, but it was still a heck of a lot of money. And I'm sure Ford was willing to lose all kinds of money on one just so they could homologate it for racing, much like they did on the Boss 429. And again on the SVO (not that they were trying to homologate it for racing, but that they only made a fraction of the projected 10,000 units/year).
I think you said a Saleen finally made sense to you when you could get one for a bargain basement price. You're not in the majority, but a lot of people recently have bought Saleens at bargain basement prices, and probably enjoy their cars likewise.
I'm not trying to diss you here, I'm just trying to get you to understand that you don't understand like some of the other longtime Saleen hobbyists understand... that's all. You're not wrong, okay?
And to address something you asked of Dave, I may be stretching here, but my observation is that he believes what Steve believes -- that the next generation of Saleen Mustangs are being built by SMS. Is Steve wrong? Maybe. But then again, maybe not.
And since the topic of this thread is the SMS 460, we shouldn't be surprised that anyone from Michigan might be offended, so that can't really be our concern here. This really goes under the "growing chest hair" category if someone from Michigan is reading this. I mean, just look at what some of the regular Mustang forums are saying, let alone the Roush forums.
I'm really glad you like your Saleen, and I wish I had one like yours, but as was shared to me today by several people, the car is more to them than than they can quantify on an specification list. That's an aspect of the hobby that you don't yet grasp, and that's okay, so I'm just trying to get you to understand that not everyone thinks like you; or perhaps you might understand and respect that we have a different opinion. And again, not that it's wrong. But at the same time, it seems like you always want to discuss it. So I'll end this discussion saying that I'm done discussing it.
So... In essence, I will agree to disagree. I'll go out on a limb and include Dave as well.
Peace out.
Jim D.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed the options for the SMS 460, but apparently SS' signature is standard on the dash! Honestly, I would option for the SMS 460 in Chromozone Silver with the 7-spoke mini lite wheels. OOooh, and add the sat-nav! :)
