At present i am in the middle of fitting the Super Shaker to Parnelli #45 When I lifted the intake I found this stamping in the front of the valley.

I had heard when Saleen pulled the motors to convert to 302 they didn't necessarily fit the motor back into the original car....well here's proof......... wonder where #45 motor is?

Yep Tony, in Saleen wisdom the engines were installed randomly with no regard for matching engine number to car number. So we now have a specialty car without matching numbers.

BTW, if you turn the 6 upside down then it will match my car.

Yes, this was brought up in September of last year in another thread (http://saleenforums.soec.org/showthread.php?t=3342), which also taught me something I did not know was that Ford no longer tied a VIN to the engine directly.

... I asked Billy Tally, Saleen's former chief technology officer who oversaw the project at the time, and he confirmed that this internal number was not put in plain sight for that reason.

Tally explained, "All of the PJ engines were built and numbered in order of build, in and out of the engine room. The numbers were to keep track of the build sheets -- what parts and measurements on that engine, and had nothing to do with the build of the car itself. As engines were completed they were wheeled out to the line and just installed."

To further clarify, "It would be a luck of the draw that the same engine went back in the car," said Tally. "We had a large pool of engines we started with that never came out of cars, as Ford does not mark the engines to the chassis anymore this really doesn't matter."

If you have a PJ and are simply curious about your engine number, look on the back of the block by the bell housing mount.
