I saw this on eBay. The dealer wasn't able to sell it, so he decided to ruin it by painting it black.......

I called on that car in Feb of 2008 and the dealer confirmed they (not Saleen) painted it black. Including the engine bay.

Campbell Ford in Niles MI also decided to ruin a perfectly good 2008 Dan Gurney because they were struggling to sell it.

I have to say that I like the black PJ a lot better than I like the results of Campbell's Gurney. I was actually back in the shop when they were adding the SuperShaker. That part I liked. The bad part was that they removed the standard Gurney stripes and add the black rally stripes. Why they removed the Heritage ducktail spoiler and added the S model rear I'll never understand. All these changes were over a year ago and as far as I know they still have it unsold.

The 2008 Gurney Edition was a tough sell... as were most 2008-09s.

Definitely. That's why there were only 67 made instead of the 300 expected. It might be easier to sell the remainders if the salespeople would actually learn a little about the product and realize that instead of continuing to spew that there were "only" 300 made.

Very true.

You would think they would bring more on the market. Last two on ebay only went to $28k. One of them is going through again right now.

I for one, certainly hope that they do go up in value at some point. But, I also know that they were never selling well when they were first available. That's why they only produced 67. I bought mine brand new off the showroom floor in 2010 (keep in mind that the car is a 2008). I thought I was getting a deal at $15K off sticker, but soon found that others were getting even better prices on brand new Gurneys.

The ones that you're seeing on eBay are the blue/white ones, which were the highest production numbers. Most of the cars produced were blue/white, followed by white/blue, then red/white. IIRC there were only a few red/white ones produced, so they should fetch a bit better price, but it's still not going to be anywhere close to what the sticker on these cars was.

I collect homologation superbikes and have watched these rare limited production motorcycles drop to half price of new value before they started climbing in price. Right now they sit at about double of what they sold for new (which would be quadruple if you bought them at half price which I did). I bought a PJ for half price betting that these cars are going to do the exact same thing. I think when the economy corrects there will be many happy PJ and DG owners.
