Default Installed End Links and MM Steering Shaft

This weekend I got some time to install the Prothane end links for the front suspension and the Maximum Motorsports steering shaft.

End Link Installation

Tools needed: 14mm socket wrench
Difficulty: Easy - anyone can do this

I think the end links on mine were the original ones. The bushings were worn a little diagonal.

The actual installation wasn't that bad but getting them back into place was a little bit of a pain.

Tips for install:
1. Use a jack on the swaybar to give yourself a little more clearance between the swaybar and control arm to fit the end link back in. Without that it was really difficult to get the last urethane bushing in place above the control arm.
2. If you jack the car up, make sure to wait to tighten the nut until the suspension is under load and back on the ground.

Maximum Motorsports Steering Shaft Installation

Tools needed: 13mm and 10mm socket wrench
Difficulty: Easy - just two bolts to remove. instructions from MM are easy to follow.

Tips for install:
  • Make sure the wheels are facing straight ahead. Put car on jack stands, crawl under the car and loosen the bolt holding the steering shaft (13mm).
  • Reach under the dashboard from inside the car and loosen the 10mm bolt.
  • Collapse the steering shaft from the inside of the car and push it back toward the firewall. Then crawl under the car and wiggle the steering column free.
  • Apply a bunch of silicone between the plastic sleeve and the upper U joint so you don't get exhaust fumes in the car.
  • Paint the steering shaft from the plastic sleeve down. I did a layer of primer and then some high heat spray paint. The upper portion of the steering column shouldn't need paint since it's inside the cabin.
