This is what I did to my shifter handle. I had to turn it down in two steps. First I used a made up bushing so I could hold it on the shaft. Then turned it down 3/4 of the way and threaded it. Then used the die to turn down the rest and threaded it to the bottom. It was a pain. But I am happy.

Thanks seethrough

I have a question for you. Did you have to adjust anything on the shifter? I guess there is some stops under the rubber boots. Did you have to move them?

No I didn't have to adjust anything. The only modifications were shimming the transmission mount to provide some additional clearance for the shifter and moving the handle from the forward mounting to the rearward mounting. The adjustments are stops for the shifter gates but everything was such a tight fit that it was almost impossible to remove the rubber seal and make the adjustments with the shifter attached. Luckily mine seems to be fine but with more driving it may need adjusting. I hope not because it is a bear getting the thing mounted. Did you install yet? If not there is one mounting bolt on the right middle I believe that is partially covered by the rubber boot. Install that bolt in the shifter first and them mount the shifter to the tranny.

I have it installed. I haven't install the handle yet. Time ran out last night. Yeah I had it on, but then couldn't get that bolt to start. lol. Off it came. What do you mean forward mounting position?

I noticed that last night. I read through the instructions and thought. How am I going to adjust those stops. lol No way.

Did you re-use the dust cover? I don't see it fitting.

The shaft that comes out of the rubber boot is angled at the front and flat on the backside. Mine came with the handle attached to the slanted front side of the shaft. I moved it to the rear flat side so that the handle was more centered in the console. I did purchase a new boot since my old one was torn and was able to stretch the new rubber over the round base of the handle.

So you did resuse that black dust cover? It doesn't look like it would fit.

Yep. It was a tight fit but the new rubber stretched. Not sure I could have done it with older weathered rubber.

Sorry for the crappy picture but cell phone and a dark interior aren't a good combination.

lol. No worries on the pic. How about the plastic cover? The one that bolts to the transmission.

The plastic cover is not used. The rubber boot on the JHC unit protects the shifter joint.

Default shifter

Did anyone try adding this shifter?

I have trouble with second gear is that the reason he changed his shifter?

I have installed the shifter. It was replaced more to eliminate the sloppy feeling the stock shifter had than an issue with shifting into a particular gear.

You are having trouble with the stock shifter?

FWIW... I have a TR6060 with a McLeod RST and an aluminum flywheel from an 03' Cobra (which is a McLeod unit). I had a very slight "rattle" when lugging the car in 4th through 6th... around 1500 rpm. I switched the tranny fluid to Redline MTL and the noise is significantly reduced. I don't think the rattle noise is totally from the clutch. I know that other 2007-ish GT500 owners have the same problem with the same tranny and a stock clutch with the sprung / isolated disc. I think there's even a Ford TSB on the topic.

You should not be using a gear oil in that transmission. Tremec only recommends an ATF for these transmissions. The MTL may reduce that noise, but it may also be destroying your synchros and eventually your transmission. Best fluid I found is Pennzoil Synchromesh.

MTL is not a gear oil... It is specifically for manual transmissions and is compatible with any transmission requiring synchromesh fluid.

Interesting. It gives its weight of 75w-140 like gear oil, but does say it is a replacement for synchromesh. Sounds like an interesting option.

It is very thin... Just like an ATF or just like Genuine GM Synchromesh fluid but I guess it has a higher viscosity. All I know is that my tranny shifts smooth and the low RPM / High gear rattle is basically gone.

Out of curiosity, have you ever used pennzoil synchromesh?

I just purchased my jhp shifter and I'm going to install it in the next couple days. Did you end up having to adj the stops yet. Also I may cut out a little of the shifter opening instead of shimming the trans so the shifter moves freely.

I have not had to make any adjustments to the stops on mine. It is not as nice of a feel as I would like but it is a large improvement over the stock setup. I am swapping to a TR-6060 so I haven't done any fine tuning but clearancing the tunnel may the best way to install it since I still have some contact between the shifter and tunnel.
