Help: AFR gauge reading/value?
Hi, i've just plug my AFR gauge.
After my bad issue with the spark plugs, because of the French registration test, i've put the old ones. I have to command news. Certainly Brisk like Jason recommanded to me at first. The AFR gauge indicate a value of 14/15. I think it's a little bit too much... Do you think it could be the fault of old spark plugs? Or maybe the too much open cata? Before removing the stock cata, after registration, it seems to me that the engine was more "responsive"...??

AFR should be around 14.5 to 15.3 at idle...during normal driving it will bounce around all over the place until you get a steady speed and should go back to idle AFR. Once you hit wide open throttle you should see around 11.5 if your supercharged. If your seeing 14 at WOT and supercharged please stop and get the car retuned before it blows up.

It seems to be like your description... I'm going to try it this week. I have a supercharge.
Thank you for your clear answer

If it is don't floor it anymore, the car is running lean (not enough fuel) and you will break the engine. I think you should contact JDM Engineering and have them right you a custom email tune to hopefully fix your issues. These guys are good, you just need to tell them what modifications are done to your car like fuel pumps, pulley, headers, injectors etc... Again make sure your not seeing lean conditions. |

OK, thank you!
I will test it very soon! And what do you think about my "feeling" of more reponsive of the engine with stock cata?? Just in my head or could be right?

It was more responsive before you put stock cats back on? Possibly, the exhaust is restrictive now....as long as the AFR is right and it runs fine I wouldn't worry too much. If your spark plugs were fouled it would likely run rich and sluggish. Rich because the spark plugs are not sparking and burning all the fuel.

I don't have the AFR gauge with the stock cata... But i've saw the spark plugs burned. But all the exhaust was more restrictve for the registration.

Sorry... My English is not perfect, and i was in a hurry for my last response...
When my car passed the registration tests, the AFR gauge was not installed, and all the exhaust was much more restrictive. For the registration, my mechanic was put my OEM cata and his restrictive mufflers, for the sounds and pollution. I think this is the problem with my spark plugs... And for the sound of the SC, he let open the dump valve to limit the charge and the sound. Certainly too much things that create bad issue... When i got the car, he just let the OEM cata and my Saleen muffler. At this moment, i've used the car for a few kilometers, and it seems to be more responsive!! When i put my cata "more open" (empty), it seems to be less responsive. Do you think it could be right? If Saleen tune the car with the OEM cata, may be it's better for the car and the power??? Better charge for the SC...?

That's what i thinking... The only thing that i wanted to change is the admission. I wanted to put a CAI. But i have to make a new tune.
I have a friend who make tune for race cars. I'm going to ask to him if he able to make mine, with his dyno test. Certainly better than a tune from thousand miles...

.028-.032 depending on how much boost.. The more boost the tighter the gap should be to avoid blowout.. I run 15psi and gap them at .028. You should be more than fine if you go in the middle at .030..

Ok, thank you!
What is the scale? (millimeter, inch,...)

Seriously? It's inches.. What would .032MM do for you in spark plug gapping? I really think you should take the car to a shop Bruce.. Just my opinion before you blow up your Extreme..

It's just to be sure and don't make a mistake. I have to convert it, so it's better with the right scale And don't be afraid, i don't want to blow up my car

After a long silence due to a big house project, i'm back with my spark plugs problem...
I've gapped my brand new HTO at around .032 and put them in the engine. But the engine run like a potatoes... Just start on the garage and stop. After looking the old S.P., I'd realized that they was a Motorcraft PZT 1F model, with a .040 gap!! And the car run good with them! I don't understand anything, the spark plugs that appears on cross reference are the HT1, not the HT0... Is someone could help me to understand?

The HT1 appears on the cross reference because they don't take into account the supercharger. You want the HT0 for supercharged applications. Have you checked it for any codes? I'd also go through and make sure that all the injector & coil pack plugs are on all the way.

I'm thinking that everything is fine on the engine (coil pack plugs and injectors) because the engine run good with the old spark plugs. Is there a default code if something is wrong?
One of the thing i want to understand is the big gap difference between my actual spark Motorcraft PZT 1F and the HT0! And why it don't run with them...

The .032 gap is more for safety, to avoid spark blowout under boost. It should really affect how it runs. Hook a code reader up to the OBD port & see if there are any codes.

I've plugged my SCT and no default code .
I've tried to gap the HT0 like the PZT 1F, at .040 It's "less bad" than with a .032 gap, like recommanded, but no good... Is someone has ever put a PZT 1F on an Extreme? Or may be it's because of the special tune of Saleen for the Cannonball Edition car...? I've sent message to Saleen center, to UBBSdave and to txjiujitsu, 2 owner of Saleen UBB Edition like mine.
