While I'm not sure, its not the impression I got - it sounds to me like the "built-engine" version is going to be the SMS-351. I guess the new 5.0 engine is good for more power than the old 4.6's...

We plan to keep comments on the 2010 MJ attempt in the current 2010 MJ thread.

Thanks to all those who've taken the time to snap additional pics of the SMS car and/or posted picture links! The additional images are great to see and better informed my thinking (as a Mustang/Saleen/SMS, etc. nut, I care about this stuff way too much!) :-)

As others have already commented, there is something about the SMS rear end design that really grows on you. The more I see it, especially with all the different angles and in different colors, I think I've gone from thinking it's the best treatment of a difficult styling challenge to actually--dare I day it--liking the rear end of the SMS car. And many other angles of the car are just gorgeous, IMO, so congrats Steve, Phil, and all who worked on it.

That Kona Blue car is a 50% off demo, right? ;-)

Anyone have any details on the "S4" suspension package? Ie. whose parts are these? Any pics? Is the "S4" Watts Link the Techo unit or is this the Watts2, or something else? I'll be curious to see the "trackability" of the SMS car and if the SCCA heritage continues.

Default Details on the 302SC and 351

As I was curious I called SMS today, left a message and Molly called back. FYI: The 302SC will have an SMS warranty but can be repaired at any Ford dealership. I think she said it is not a Ford warranty. It will have forged internals due to the amount of horsepower. It is available now with a price about $65,000.00.
The 351 is their EXTREME model. 1 year warranty. Price about $80K with 650 horsepower. It won't be available until early summer and will probably have a limited edition like the EXTREME but I don't know that for sure.
SMS is having their open house this Saturday from 3-5. I'm sure I'll see some of you there.

Default Wheels

Will there be other wheel packages other than this five spoke. Just very bored of this style. This car needs a new wheel. Also this is the same aero kit on N/A cars as it is on the S/C cars and the 351's? Thanks for clarification.

While they won't take trade-ins, they'll gladly give you more information and discuss an order!

So they will add the supercharger, and pull, strip and rebuild the engine, for a mere $10k bump in MSRP? I find that a little tough to believe, but if it is true, why would anyone buy a N/A?

Chris.

I would of thought the 351x would of had a bit more than 650 hp considering the 3v 302E had 620, especially considering the new engine has all those technological advancements. I would of expected closer to 675 or so... 80k, not bad pricing compared to the market, but I would think it will be closer to 90k when they actually hit the market.

The 460X was rated at 655HP, so I would expect the SMS351X to be rated over that, in the spirit of ever-increasing numbers. Saying that, the 460X must be one *rare* car, so not sure if that even counts... Still, when throwing out HP numbers "pre-release", I would expect SMS to aim a little low, and then beat expectations when they finally make the announcement. Much better than setting peoples expectations high and then disappointing them...

Me personally - I'm going to guess 720HP. If they're going to beat the 5.4l in displacement, they had better be in high-end SuperSnake territory for HP numbers...

Chris.

Molly did say they'll have wheel choices.
$65,000.00 on the 302SC. I wonder if the stock engine from Ford will have some better internals as stock Hspwr will be over 400. It will have the new heads which are 4V. They flow.

I was unsure of the aggressive rear diffuser in the early renderings but seeing the produciton version with the race light really sets it apart from anything else out there. I wish there was a good shot of the guage package. I also like the idea of the 351 version. I assume a 351 cubic inch motor?
The rear diffuser is really more about aerodynamics, but it is also about sophisticated race car styling.

As Dave mentioned, it will be an option, and Steve clarified for me today that it will be a front opening butterfly like the SMS Twenty-Fifth Anniversary car.

One announcement had a Minilite-Inspired Aluminum Wheel listed as an option for the SMS Mustang. Maybe similar to a PJ wheel.
