Default What have you done to your SN-95 Saleen today?

I've seen a thread like this on many other forums and figured why not start one on here?

So what have you done to your 94-98 Saleen today? Please share!

I'll start. Today I received my authentic Saleen decal kit I ordered off of eBay. It came with the correct windshield banner (mine currently has the 99-04 banner) and the chevrons/s a l e e n decals for each door. Now I'm just on the hunt for some s281 decals for the hood. My plan is to only replace the windshield banner and save the other decals for when my current ones begin to peel off.

Sweet! Yea I couldn't find the s281 decals. I'll have to give Saleen a call. I plan on calling today to get a letter of authenticity and the original window sticker as well.

Awesome! I'd like to have my injectors cleaned. Well actually I'll probably be upgrading to 42 lb injectors soon when I do some fuel upgrades for my vortech.

Today I decided to quickly polish the chrome Lemans wheels on my Saleen. Nothing super detailed, just wanted to clean them up. I could tell this hasn't been done in years. I was actually very surprised with how easily I was able to clean them. They are good for now but in the near future I plan on removing them and cleaning/polishing the backs real well also. Here's some pics.

Before:

After:

I noticed a few things about my wheels while cleaning them.

1.) The rear wheels appear to be the "USA Lemans". They have no "Saleen" stamping any where on the outer lip.

2.) The rear wheels also have a different offset (lug nuts are a bit deeper). Not sure what that's about.

3.) One of the front wheels appears to be the "Chinese Lemans". It has only "Saleen" stamped on the outer lip. The quality of this wheel seems to be lower than the others. (Chrome is chipping in the back)

4.) The other front wheel appears to be the "Italian Speedline Lemans". This wheel has "Saleen" as well as "Speedline" stamped into the outer lip. The "Saleen" appears to be rubbing off.

I was able to classify the wheels based on the information here:

The rear wheels are probably 18x8.5 with a 10mm offset. The hubs are really tall so the wheel sits outside of the wheel well compared to being tucked in. These wheels are known to crack on rough roads. So someone probably bought a used set or maybe a new one here and there. I have a full chrome set of china wheels I may be selling with 10" rears soon. Do you plan on piecing together either a full usa/china/ or Italian speed line set?

I am not sure. If I do it won't be anytime soon. I have other things I need to fix before I spend money on a set of matching wheels. Would be nice though!

I recently added the SCCA Manufactures Champion decal to the passenger side quarter window of my Saleen.

After looking at some pictures of Saleens, I am wondering if one should go on the other side as well? Or was there only one? Anyone know? Thanks.

Looking for some help. Anyone know what kind of center caps I need for the wheels I posted a few posts up? Id like to replace all of my center caps but have a few different types of LeMans wheels. I have the USA LeMans in the rear, a Chinese LeMans wheel on the front passenger, and a Speedline LeMans on the front driver. Are these all different types of center caps? I have center caps that I found in the trunk of the car. Not sure if they're real Saleen caps or if they are even the right ones. I remember trying to put one of the caps on one of the rear USA LeMans and me and my dad basically had to hammer it in. This lead me to believe the are not the correct caps. Heres a pic of the caps I have:

Should be on both sides.

Also those are 99-04 center caps

Removed the stock bumper bar and foam in favor of a Donathen Racing bumper bar. Ordered Sunday should be here this weekend.

Be careful that bar isn't DOT approved and will offer no protection in a 10mph collision.

I'll do my best to be cautious especially with a passenger. It doesn't see bad weather, probably won't go down the 1/4 for a while if at all. I normally just drive it to shows or on the weekends just to keep things moving. My old bumper support had a section cut to allow more air to the intercooler. I saw someone with this unit and liked it. hopefully I don't experience any fender benders or run off the road into a tree to telephone.

I have a close friend that runs the same bar because he was trying to get more air to his intercooler and radiator. He said it did help in that respect. I thought about it for the exact same reason as you guys but I do a lot of daily driving so I decided against it. Either way good luck with it.

I'll play,

Replacing the headlights and adjust them
Swapping back to stock clutch cable and adj firewall
If I have time get the windshield banner on

Search some more for stainless exhaust pieces, lucky when they hacked up the stock saleen catback/mid-pipe they left the saleen tailpipes behind the axle there.

This isn't really what I did today but more over the past month.

I got some parts in. I got another championship wreath decal for the quarter window, a wreath decal for the rear window, new bumper number decals, a new momo shift knob, a Canton expansion tank, Saleen S281 floor mats, an oil feed upgrade for my vortech supercharger, and new idler pulleys. Got everything finished up yesterday and washed her. Heres some pics.

Some of the parts:

The knob isn't exactly like the old one but its the closest I could find. I actually like it much better.

SC removed. I tried to clean it up some while it was out. Also, the oil feed upgrade kit.

Canton tank. This thing looks great. However, the bolt holes didn't quite line up. I had to make small brackets to get them to work.

Before:

After:

New mats. These really set it off. I'm surprised Saleen still had these in stock. Quite pricey though.

Bumper numbers replaced and relocated to correct position (lined up with the headlight and corner light split).

All done!

Can you take a better picture of the hole cut in your hood, the cowl section?

The caps with the rubber rings are the original style 1999-2000-ish caps.

The rectangular hole on underside, back of the hood. Above the firewall.

I have been doing some research on the center caps and want to get the correct ones. Would these center caps work for all of the wheels I have?

https://www.mann-engineering.com/ind...ap-silver.html

Then I could just buy the emblems for them off of ebay.

Or is it not that easy since I have 3 different wheels?

I have a full set of white Italians that need refinishing. I was going to do them in silver and sell them. I piece together wheels here and there. Which style do you prefer? I must admit chrome does suite black very well.

Those could fit the Speedline magnesium, maybe. Not the aluminum.

The "correct" cap is also 3 pieces and the actual Saleen logo or Emblem is placed on a insert and then that is placed onto the cap. Depending on the width that cap might fit your speedline wheels but may be too small for the usa Lemans and the Chinese.

I do agree that the chrome and black go really well together. Also, I would like to keep the car original, and it came from Saleen with the chrome. So I think the chrome stays. I do think silver would maybe look good with the silver graphics.

I've made a little progress. I will be having an engine rebuilt for this car but am currently saving for that, so I'm doing temporary fixes as I plan on repainting the engine bay and core support when the motor comes out. Here I was taking care of rust on the bumper support mounts.
I

Some primer for now

The Donathan bar installed, which I plan on having done in moonlight blue

Swapped over to my alloy magnesiums as I bought them years ago but never installed.

Old rough fender liner with overspray. Plan on getting new ones

Removed my battery and cleaned a bit. I plan on running a truck mounted relocation.

The battery tray broke and the bolt was corroded but was able to take it out

Some more rust cleanup and primer. Nothing fancy but it's progress and will for now.

I may either paint my condenser or buy a new unit. A/C still blows cold.

Next will be sound deadening the interior and new carpet. Possibly have my Recaro trends with climate controls done in grey cloth or grey leather with a similar logo that Saleen used on their recaros. I want it to look as oem as possible as far as the logo goes.

Nice work! How do the Saleen from fascias mount? I see you have everything off. I've tried to look around but can't find any screws or anything holding it on. If I grab mine I can pull it up about an inch or more and then just drop it back down. Its like its just hanging there almost.

When I had my intake off I had mine cleaned/flowbenched at a place in Houston. They weren't bad, but there was about a 10% difference from low to high. I'm glad I did it, particularly since I'm boosted.

Default Dyno day

The goal, was driveable linear power. Not to be a HP monster, #111 is that, but to be a nice dricveable car. To start, run, and not stall a lot.

The car had been previously chipped ( no surprise) , ir was carrying an old school Superchips chip, and I'll tell you, the tune was no good. The car had no juice till about 3500 RPM, then the boost would kick in, and then the cal just fell all over itself. Felt like it wanted to go...but would not.

So Dyno run one proved what I had been feeling. Hit 4K, boom, fell off. Replce origina MAF with a 90MM Lightning MAF.

The tuner started adding more fuel to manage A/F ratio, it was exceedingly lean on normal runnning, and got fatter on boost, but not quite enough,...and it was not a smooth transition.

Eventually added advance all over the curve, then at specific RPM's, to finish with a much more driveable product. A I finished, probably not, but it is so much better, that it can now be enjoyed, and I have the safety of knowing that the A/F ratio is now in a very safe zone, all the way up to 6K.

Next, alignment.....fix the A/C.

I'm sure you already know the Donathan bar isn't street legal and will not protect anything in a minor front-end collision, with that out of the way, did you have to modify the Donathan bar in anyway to make it fit underneath the Saleen front bumper?

Thanks

Yes you've told me twice, it's 4 bolts and I can put the stock one back on within 10 minutes. I'm sorry to worry you so much.

I apologize but I talk to a lot of people on Mustang stuff on a daily basis that I forget sometimes what I said or wrote and to whom. I have a customer that is thinking of putting that bar on his road racer with a Saleen body kit but on a 96 Cobra, we had to modify the bar a bit to fit when we installed foam around it. So was trying to get an idea if we needed to modified the bar or not.

Took off the terrible sounding SLP mufflers that were welded into the stock borla catback(got a borla catback ready to go in). Thank god the tips didnt get messed with.

Refinished cobra calipers(orange, red was peeling off), have a few days off coming up and hope to have car converted to cobra brakes all around with SS hoses and the exhuast fixed.

Still need to swap the stock airbox into the car and sell the BBK stuff, just have to find the stock parts.
