Default 35th Anniversary Edition?

A topic at stangnet has me wondering if Saleen got ahold of any 35ths for the '99 year?

I was told by someone there that mine "couldn't be" because it was Rio Red, rather than "Performance Red", but I thought Saleen repainted all the cars? Another reason mine "couldn't be" is apparently because it has white gauges (that are Saleen)...

So there's been nothing definitive given to prove/disprove if it actually is or not.

Would a VIN check identify it, or would a quit inquiry to Janice/Saleen tell the story?

Curiousity's got the better of me.

A VIN number check certainly would confirm whether you car started out life as a 35th anyway. There is a 35th Ann. section over on Stang.net, someone there could probably lead you in the right direction towards confirming it...

Seems alittle wasteful though, converting a 35th..besides the speedo, special seats, wheels, rear honeycomb bezel, hood scoop among other parts would also have to be removed.

That's kind of what I thought too. Seemed a bit goofy to replace all those special parts.

Yep, Saleen Performance converted four 35th Anniversary Package GT Mustangs into S281s.

The 35th came in one of four colors, Performance Red (35th only color in 1999), Black, Silver, White.

The Guages of the 35th cars are the same as a standard GT, it's the silver surround that is connected to the clear plastic cover that is unique.

There has been a silver Anny based S281 'vert for sale in the $40-50,000 range... I think. Check page 103 of the Saleen Book/Registry for a photo.

Saleen also converted the 2000 Spring Feature Package GT vehicles. These came in Zinc Yellow (SFP only color in 2000), Black, Silver, White.

The Zinc S281s for 2000 are easy to pick out. I've notice with these, they all appear to have the optional Saleen vented hood. Which made me wonder if the hoodscoop and dual racing stripes of the Spring Edition were looked down upon. A forced option like on the N/A Cobra based S281s.

Dave,

I'm the one who started the thread on Stang Net. I had just purchased 99-107 and seeing a few hints of what a 35th anniversary stang would have as special indentifiers it got my curiosity up. Jason on Stang Net had all the VINs for the 35th LE stangs and he verified that mine was not amongst the few. Your information was very helpful.

Thanks,
Brody

Yeah, with only 4, it would have been like hitting the lotto (well, a bit like it anyway).
