Default Help: Lost my Alt Pulley

Replaced my Alt and it dint work, long story short, 3 alts later, i now know why. Should have researched it. Also i took in the original for the core charge and its long gone, so is the clutch less pulley needed!

Does anyone know where I can get one?

I am grounded until it comes in :-(

For some of us that haven't gone through this issue, what exactly was the problem?

Ford Mustang GT Alternators have a clutch on the pulley so it doesn't engage spinning one way. With the Supercharger in the mix, the Alt runs backwards. Saleen swapped the pulley for one that does not have the clutch with a specific nut to hold it on. The Ford Mustang GT alts have a specific spline tool to take the pulley off.

I don't know any of this and sent my old one in as a core, while picking up the new one. It kept not working and I assumed it was a faulty Alt as they are known to have issues.....3 alts later, i got to start thinking and it dawned on me, its running backwards, and in fact has a clutch on it. Original Alt was probably already at Bosch getting rebuilt with my pulley.

I bought the spline tool $$, but I am fairly positive you can find one at an VW dealer....i didnt want to take that chance so its being shipped with the bloody pulley.

When you get the new pulley you may also need a spacer that goes behind the pulley to get the correct belt alignment. If I remember correctly the clutched pulleys don't have them. If you don't have one you can pick them up at a local alternator rebuild shop.

Thanks for that little tid bit....i did get a washer in the package, so ill assume that is what it was for....installing today, using blue lock tite, finally.

Also, now that i got the tool, $60 for what amounts to a socket, highway robbery.....

Worst part is i never thought that this could have been such a fiasco, and for sure before i touch this car again, i am searching these forums, even before turning a wrench on the most basic task like swapping an alt.
