Default GT500 Steering Wheel

Just installed a 2011 GT500 steering wheel last night and I love it. Really easy to do. Had to solder a few wires to get cruise working, but still no big deal. Gonna get the stereo controls working this weekend when I get harness.

This is very very nice. I have a couple of questions. What color does the steering wheel illuminate? Can you give a little more detail on the wiring? I would like to add steering wheel controls to my stereo but was a little hesitant because I wasnt sure there were enough wires present in the column for this. Any more info would be greatly appreciated.

I used the following posts for my install. There's a spare slot in the clockspring that you can use for the stereo controls. The backlighting is a blue-green color and you can kind of see it in the photo. It isn't the same as the other lighting, but I don't mind it. Especially since I have the my color gauges and they are blue anyway. You could get new lights put in the wheel or I was even thinking of changing the rest of my lights to match the steering wheel. I am getting sick of the green.

Got the harness and now I can control the stereo with the steering wheel controls. Works really good.

Looks awesome. Now you made me what to do this.
Where did you buy the gt500 wheel? And where did you buy the cruise control harness and the radio control harness?
I have the Ford OEM GPS, will the radio harness work with that?
Can you post the web links?

This is where I got the steering wheel. Lowest price I could find. Part number AR3Z3600AA.

To get cruise control working you need to use the old harness from your original steering wheel in place of the new one. Instructions are in the links I provided.

I used the Axxess ASWC for the stereo controls and it worked great. Auto programmed the first time. You hook the magenta wire from the steering wheel to the white/green wire of the Axxess SWC and the green wire from the steering wheel goes to ground. Control unit senses what car and aftermarket stereo you have and then programs itself. It is possible to get it working with your factory radio from what I understand, but I have never done it and I think it requires programming of your head unit.

Forgot to mention that you can save $100 on the wheel if you get the Boss steering wheel instead of the gt500 wheel. The boss wheel is all alcantara instead of a mixture of leather and alcantara like the gt500 wheel. I just liked the gt500 wheel better and felt it matched the interior better as well.

Ya I noticed that too. I can't decide! I think the Gt500 wheel looks slightly better, and the white stitching enhances it and it matches the white stitching on my stock Saleen seats. Hmmmm...

Grant wheels are nice, but they are more expensive and they do not include stereo controls.

There was a time I was considering a few one-off leather accents by DVS Customs in Texas.

One of the things they can do, custom wrap you OE wheel however you wish. Also, they can add thumb pads/grips, carbon accents... etc.

I saw that after I made the purchase last night. I'm going to order the plugs from them today.

I just got finished installing the 2012 Boss steering wheel and also got the controls working for my stereo. Its hard to see but I also got my shift boot recovered to match the wheel(not a perfect match). A big thanks to Seelye76 for bringing this mod to my attention.

Wow that is awesome! I wish my 06 had the newer rear view mirror like yours.

That's easily fixed and one of the first mods I did for my car. I replaced the factory mirror with a auto dimming mirror with homelink, compass, and temp. I think it's the GENK51a.

Awesome! I def need this because I mounted my Escort 9500ix under the mirror and the dimmer gets in the way. http://flic.kr/p/bBKYVj

The mirror is a stock from an Escalade. I'm going to redo it with a mirror I just got from an Infiniti with garage door buttons(homelink). Here's an old thread on my mirror.

Yeah I wished I could change out my 01 steering wheel also... So I did, it is from a 2005. I changed it out before the new ones came out with the radio controls on it. One day I might swap it out for one of those. Not trying to thread jack you.

Picture was taken before I hooked the dash pod back up.
