Default Q: How to verify a genuine 1994 V6 Sport by Steve Saleen?

I've been offered this V6 Saleen Supercharged car. The owner assures me it is a genuine Saleen car.

As these were not numbered, how would I pick it from a clone?

This car also seems to have the S351 decals rather than the Sport decals I've seen in most pics, can anyone confirm that this may be original?

Any help appreciated.

For anyone interested, this car is in Australia, and is now Right Hand Drive.

i didn't think they made any saleen v6's ive never seen or heard of them it may have a saleen supercharger but that doesn't make it real just like a real body kit doesn't make my gt a real saleen!

I don't think a real Saleen would have 60 different badges and decals on it either. I have never heard of a V6 Saleen Mustang in all the research I have done.

They made a handful in 94. They should have no body mods other than possibly a wing. They had 93 style speedline rims and race craft suspension. I believe they had a K&N filter but no other mods.

Like S351R said, There is a red one in Charlotte (display car for the AnnI show) There was a silver one in CA that was converted to a 351 and a couple more out there. The pic you posted does NOT look like a true V6 Sport.

Ok, I've done more research, and think it may have the Saleen supercharger, but not be a genuine v6 sport.
The supercharger and decals have S281 on them (4.6l).

Is there any way to tell if these were added to a v6 sport, or just to a regular v6 stang.

Here is a white & blue 1994 V6 Sport by Steve Saleen.

http://saleenforums.soec.org/showthread.php?t=3397

Original dealer sales material or any item that states the chassis was drop shipped to Saleen Performance would be a possible key in determining a Sport. If it is not a well known car.

We do have one forum member with two V6 Sports. I believe he purchased these for his daughters. I do not recall if this was the fellow.

http://saleenforums.soec.org/showthread.php?t=7340

There was also a sighting for a dark green V6 Sport up in the Nor Cal area, if I recall correctly.

A Saleen designed three piece-wing was a standard feature for the V6 sport. Saleen Performance offered this wing over-the-counter was well in 1994-95, but it was not popular.

Anyway, doesn't sound like you found a V6 Sport. The 4.6 2V V8 was offered in the 1996-98 GT.

A couple more pics.
If it isn't a Saleen built car, can anyone ID if the blower is genuine Saleen? And why would it have the S281 on it, when it's on a V6??

Looks like someone had fun with decals. The body kit was offered by Xenon during the 1990s.

The S281 originally debuted in 1996 and for the most part represented a Saleen Mustang based on a 4.6 2 Valve GT.

The supercharger doesn't look familiar to me, hopefully someone can aid your inquiry.

Don't forget the V6 Sports were not serialized and not supercharged, and frankly, not very valuable or desirable even though they are rare.

The car in question is interesting, but certainly there is no indication of it being anything Saleen, except for maybe the fender badge which resembles a Saleen part -- all other graphics are not authentic.

The owner is certainly mistaken as to its authenticity, or is pulling your leg.

Take a pass on it.

Thanks Jim.
The owner, I trust to be mistaken, not pulling my leg, but at the price, I'm not really concerned about it's authenticity.
So the 281 and other decals don't appear genuine? The supercharger doesn't appear genuine?
I have just bought it anyway, but I'd rather know what I do or don't have, for future reference.

The V6 Sport was a great concept to offer a reasonably priced package that would appeal to a younger Mustang buyer that otherwise faced high insurance costs.

I still have the V6 sport decals. I know where one of the supercharged cars is at. I think only 2 were built.

Because the guy is a weiner. Run for the hills on this one. There were only a few S-232 V6 Saleens, all were 1994's. Take a look at the taillights, they don't look horizontal which would make the car a 1996-1998. But all in all, the guy is pulling one on you (or at least trying to). Not only is it a fake Saleen, but a really bad one. Incidentally, I noticed the right hand drive. Nothing unusual over there in Austrailia, but as far as I know all Saleen V6 Sports (S-232) were American sold, i.e. right hand drive only. By the way, Steve dropped the line in 1995 and never recognized the line as a true Saleen.

Thumbs up Saleen V6 Sport?

Did you ever buy that Mustang that was supposed to be a V6 Sport? Was it a real one? I own a real one now and can fill you in on any details you may need. All the Best-Vince

From memory, the V6 Sports that were supercharged, used a Vortech centrifugal setup.

It seems to me that we only did a handful of these. We tried supercharging them, but very low boost, as we had no ability to retard timing, and detonation was too much of an issue. The exhaust was very restrictive...just not a good way to go. They got suspension, stripes and a specific spoiler...

yep... not a serialized car. 3.8Liter (vortech centerfugal supercharger option), '93 Speedline wheels, same deck spoiler later used on S281 and stripes(2 horizonal on each side fading into air ducts).. this Ozzy car is ALL wrong

The V6 Sport wing is different from the 1996-98 S281 wing.

The V6 item is a three piece spoiler. The S281 is one piece.
