Q: S351 replacement spark plugs?
Joined: Fri Feb 01, 2008 4:11 pm
Posts: 289 Getting ready to do a tune up on the S351. What spark plugs should I use? I'm gonna change the fuel filter and and distributer cap as well. May even do the ignition coil too. Car has been getting bad gas mileage this year. Took the car out Sunday and got on it hard and it just felt like it was WAY down on power. It also spuddered around 5,000 rpm (but fuel pressure was good). Hoping it just needs new plugs

Saleen used Taylor as a brand on their S351 vehicles. These were the red wires with "Saleen Racecraft" printed on the jackets. ---- You may want to place new wires on your list as well.

Autolite 3924
Motorcraft SP406 (AGSP32C) ^^ Those are the spark plugs to get or NGK copper or V power equivalents. Taylor 8mm Spiro-Pro (same as the Saleen Racecraft wires as Dave mentioned) 74658 -blue 74258- red 74058 -black If you want Ford Racing wires: m-12259-c301 (blue) m-12259-m301 (black) m-12259-r301(red) m-12259-y301 (yellow) Cap and Rotor Kits MSD- 8482 (red cap) Accel - 8233 (tan cap) OR 8234 (grey cap) Your stock coil should still be in good working order, if you insist on changing it, get another Motorcraft coil or an Accel coil. |

Additionally, if you don't want to use either of the colored distributor caps 2DXTRM just listed you can also buy a "Black" distributor cap with brass tips made by MSD Part #: 84083
I wanted the stock look so I went with this cap. Here is the part number for the stock K&N filter that come on the S351's is E-3020 and you can buy at this link: http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...id=193168&rw=1 or you can use Anderson Motorsports replacement filter which has a cone in the middle which is supposed to be better and which i'm currently running (let me know if you want part number). I am also using Royal Purples Oil Filter Part #: 20-253 NGK V-Power spark plugs gapped at 0.34 Part #: 6962 and are the replacement for the original NGK plugs that came with your S351 (Old Part #: BKR6E) My S351 runs great at this gap setting. I've tried other recommended settings that didn't work well with my car or setup i.e. 0.28/0.30/0.40/0.45. I looked at what the 03-04 Cobra gap settings were and it worked for me perfectly with 93 Octane and currently 100 Octane. Also, with the information provided by 2DXTRM, Chris at Taylor Wires will do custom jobs for you. I hated the coil wire length which was like 12-13" I had my Saleen wire trimmed down to the right size of 7" for a clean, tight look.
