Q: p1233 code - Fuel pump, FPDM, etc?
Hey guys,
My car has not been able to start and the p1233 code has come up. The inertia switch in the trunk is pressed in. The car has 32k on it and is an 04. Would you think the fuel pump is shot? Also what are some steps I can take to rule parts out so that I'm not just throwing money at it. Thanks. |

Have someone key on the car while you listen underneath to hear if pump cycles on for 2 seconds and then should shut off. Check fuel rail Schrader valve for any fuel pressure. Not sure what that code means. If pump works then check for spark. Gotta start with the basics fuel air and spark.

Pump does not prime. The code is a fuel pump driver module code.
What's the path to follow? Battery>fuse panel>CCRM>FPDM>Inertia switch>Fuel pump Let me know if I got this wrong and I'll work backwards from the pump |

Easiest test to do is find the positive wire to the fuel pump and check it for key on power. If it has power your pump is bad. You could tap into it back by the fuel pump harness at the tank or find the fuel pump relay and check it there. A good wiring schematics book and or module/relay locator book helps a ton.
If there is no key on power then you can work backwards from there. |

You can also check key on power at the inertia switch in the trunk, would be a bit easier. Power should flow in and out of switch to the pump. There is a fuel pump driver module as referenced by that code. More testing would need to be done if no power at inertia switch. Check all fuses as well, under hood and dash.

I've checked the fuse under the hood and that is ok. Which fuse would it be under the dash?
Also should i be back probing the harnesses or just testing to see if they have power? |

Just check for power at the main fuel pump junctions like the inertia switch. I googled your problem and there is a wealth of information and what to test for and how to do it. A tech even has a YouTube video but he is working on a Ford truck. Same code thou.

Ok...so the battery is dead now since the car hasn't ran in 3 weeks so it is hooked up to a jumper box. I'm getting power at both ends of the inertia switch with plug pushed in. When i test the FPDM it reads higher than the 10.5 that i read it has to be. When they say the FPDM is higher then replace the FPDM. Is this true? I might just send it into the dealer to get looked over.

Did you get it yet? Like someone else said, pull the plug at the pump have someone key it on and see if you get voltage, if you do its the pump. Mine had same code, it was fuel pump. I'm the guy who sent you the plug diagram. Check pin #6.....should stay hot maybe 10 seconds before it goes off so you gotta be somewhat quick and "sure" your on it when testing.
Good luck!

Also, because I have been through it already, if I can give any advice, no offense, just slow down, and do some research, get a good idea how the system works in your head and work through it. The quick test is at the plug at the pump. If you have no power, start back tracking. It easy to start rushing and probing ect...you don't want to cause any wiring gremlins or start frying things on such a nice car.
You have already checked the easy stuff, fuses, inertia switch ect. With it being a return less fuel system its kinda tricky because it has two modules. These cars are not always the easiest to work on. Hope some of this helps! you will get it!
