Default Q: 1994-98 S281 hood option?

Can someone explain the hood options on the S281? Most are the standard flat hood but I've ran across a few with the head extractor/cowl hood. Was it added later or a factory option?

For the 1996-98 S281, the Saleen vented hood was an option. There are two exceptions.

First. If the 1996-98 S281 was based on an SVT Cobra chassis, the Saleen vented hood was required

Second. The 1998 SA-15 featured the Saleen vented hood as standard.

History:

The vented hood debuted on the 1994 SR. This was a standard feature on the street competition model. This hood was also part of the original Speedster package for the 1995 S351 convertible. The Saleen vented hood would become a standard feature for all S351 models in 1996.

Thanks Dave. The 1997 I'm in the process of buying has the vented hood and it's just a standard s281 coupe. Saleen said the only options it came with was chrome wheels and 3:55s. Trying to figure out where the hood fit in.

Given what Saleen said and how this vehicle is wearing both a vented hood and Speedline Magnesium wheels, I would say a previous owner added a few new features.

Car looks nice in the current form.

Yah I am happy with the car. Just trying to learn more about it. This will be my first Saleen. Two prior mustangs were a 2008 GT500 and an 04 Cobra. Appreciate the help

Yup, Dave is correct. Incidentally, the V6/GT hood will not work with a Cobra drivetrain. Reason for the bubble in the modular SN95 Cobras is to allow clearance for the 32V intake. The Saleen heat extractor hood has around 1 1/2" of clearance over the V6/GT hood, and will clear the 32V motor.
