Default Production Q: Filler on my Saleen Hood?

So since ive owned my 2009, there has been a spider like crack in the paint around the washer nozzle on the drivers side. I wasnt really sure what caused it but it was a bit of an eye sore so I decided to have the hood repainted to fix it, plus there were a few rock chips on the front of the hood. So I had the hood painted and after a few days, i noticed the lines were still there. They were faint but from an angle you could see them still. As if the paint receded into those lines. So I took it back to get fixed. The body shop just called and said that it appears there is a ton of filler around those holes. And if they repaint, the filler is just going to absorb the paint and spider again. Does anyone know if this was something Saleen did? The holes BTW look like someone cut them out witha screwdriver, very jagged and rough. Did Saleen cut standard holes and then fill them with filler after? Or do i possibly have a replacement hood?

in terms of a OEM hood replacement, Saleen only sells the fiberglass version, the aluminum is no longer, unless you can find a used one. they are a hot rare item to find.

Are we saying the washer nozzle holes were not cleanly cut for the mechanisms?

Exactly. And the are supposedly filled with bondo instead around the edges. Not sure where the aluminum ends and the filler begins.

If you have the aluminum hood, I would remove all the bondo and have someone that works with metal fix it otherwise the bondo will just keep cracking.

Gotcha Jason. Thats going to take a bit of reseach to find someone i trust here not to screw up my discontinued hood.

Are there any other aluminum hood owners who can have the same thing going on? Can someone pull their washer nozzels and see if its similar to what I'm describing? I'm trying to get pics from the body shop.

It seems that when Saleen stamped out the windshield washer nozzle holes the aluminum took some stress. This is normal for metal. Example, if you dent a panel, the surface area of the dent is larger than the flat surface area was originally. You'll never shrink the metal back down to remove the dent completely.

Once the hole were stamped out and the metal was fatigued it lost its shape and filler had to be used to retain the original shape. Nothing wrong with this if done properly.

Hi EXTREME302

my hood also has this issue. I had one area fixed and repainted last year but it has now cracked in that area around the nozzle.

my car was a daily driver but I have now taken it off the road to save up and get body repairs and a full repaint hopefully next year.

so im glad this came up so I can make sure this is addressed by whom ever I get to repaint the car.
