Cool Q: Anyone disassemble their calipers for Powder Coat?

I had the wonderful opportunity to gain entry to the "I screwed up my calipers" club by getting brake fluid on them.

Soooo now I need to disassemble them so I can prep them for powdercoat....

anyone do this already? I sure could use a few pointers...

Robert, give me a call and Ill walk you through it. Its not something easily explained over the forum, besides if you do it wrong youll loose a finger....

Front or rears? I have taken several front units apart and powder coated them. The rears are trickier due to the emergency brake setup but can be done.

I dunno Jason...Everytime I call you I spend thousands of dollars on kick arse parts....

Glass bead - 80 grit. Leaves a nice soft finish but still enough for the PC to bite.

I don't know if it is appropriate barricade but I have done a few of my cars with just the g2 or dupli color caliper paint and they look awesome far away and close up.

Don't have to remove calipers and of course is a fraction of the cost. But for me it was more of the hassle of removing and sending the calipers out,etc

Call me lazy!

Mine were boxed up and there was brake fluid in the line.
Of course they then leaked all over the calipers and now the powdercoat is all bubbly.

I will have to pop out the pistons and take the rest of the PC off before coating them.

Since I have to pull it all apart I might as well PC them.

Post pics when you do it, I want to do mine eventually also! Although I might wait until I upgrade, I'd like to get some Shelby 13" Brembo take-offs eventually.

The GT500's? I have a set of them as well. They look nice. I picked up a gloss black set. The newer flat look horrible IMHO.

I will take snaps as I go on redoing the Saleens.

Robert did you get it done?

I got a quote from the guy that StopTech uses for custom stuff. HE does the disassembly, stripping and powdercoating for much cheaper than my time. Same thing with boxed up brake fluid happened to the 6 piston Saleen brakes I just got from another owner. I am waiting till after SISA to send the fronts out, as I am sending the backs as well.

Oh and last time I called Jason, I bought a 14" Baer 2 piece rear rotor upgrade with special ordered slotted only rotors to match the front, SS hoses and new pads for the back...and I called for something else!

Had mine rebuild and powder coated for $880.00 , a hell of a lot more than I thought it would be. Because, the only shop in my area that would touch 6 piston calipers was a Mercedes/Jaguar performance shop.
I put STOPTECH on the caliper because the car says SALEEN in enough places already. Plus they are made by STOPTECH.
Also, had the hat re-oxide'd and the rotors re-zinc'd

Did they put in new seals? Its quite a bit of work to do calipers right...and without loosing a finger! But your set up looks good! But if anyone needs them, we do them...its not cheap but there done right! We just did a set of front and rear calipers in "Lizstick" red.....boy did those come out nice!

Here are the ones that we powder coated for our Barricade replica. Gloss black with the reverse SALEEN decal made with the same reflective vinyl used on the door. This set was completely disassembled and painted without pistons/seals in it. We have powdercoated other calipers with the pistons/seals still installed and it is much easier to do.

I just had Jason power coat and rebuild my calipers Lizstick Red front and rear, and they came out great!! I just finished installing them along with some Bear rotors, front and back. I will post some pic later in the week when I get back into town.

I for one cannot wait to see them on your car!!!! I'm coming up for SEMA in a few weeks, I'd love to see the car in person. We killed ourselves getting those to come out perfect so like I mentioned I'd love to see them.

Can you ask Brembo about their 4 piston calipers that are offered on the 2015?
Can you get them?

Need to know price and color options.

NOT the older ones but the exact model offered on the 2015.

I called StopTech and they recommended "Mike the PowderCoater"... He can be found on Google. He even replaced my Saleem logos in the same font and size.

The gold color was the zinc coating. They were brand new in that picture. Here's how they look now.

Ahh, much better! I love how cheap it is to zinc wash rotors to make them look like new! The gold/yellow looked weird.
