Hood pins: paint bubbling
Just purchased an '05 Saleen and the paint is bubbling around the hood pins. Talked to one bodyshop, who relayed that it is due to electrolysis (metal pins/aluminum hood). Can fix, but will happen again in 3-6yrs. Anyone else have this issue? Options (buying a new hood)? Thanks.

You can have it fixed, but the trick is... Most shops/technicians who don't understand galvanic corrosion will treat it like a normal steel repair.
They need to take the pin and base out. Grind material away. Sand with 80 grit. Primer the area. Scuff/sand the primer. Apply any filler if needed. Paint hood. When reinstalling the pins and base for the pins, it would benefit you greatly to have a gasket of sorts between the base and the hood. |

Very helpful, I've got a bodyshop lined up and will relay your suggestions, specifically the gasket. Thanks.
