Default Help: Vintage Saleen Gauges

Hi All,

I just bought an SSC #163 and working on it restoring it. Shoot me an email if you have SSC stuff , but keep in mind I just bought it so cash is not as free flowing as before .

The car came with a supercharger and I have decided to keep it on the car, however it came with phantom oil pressure and water temperature gauges in the center counsel right over the air outlets(since those are already on the factory gauges cluster), I will replace them with Saleen Boost and Fuel Pressure, but here is where I need some help.

Please see picture, looks like there is power and boost and fuel line but how do you light these puppies up, I just see a big hole where I take it a bulb would go?

I just went LED on the Factory Gauge cluster and happy with results, any ideas or instructions anyone can share on installing these?

Regards,
JR

You're missing the light sockets.

Ask Bob Goodson for a photo of his sockets, then post your findings.

Easy install..If you don't have the fuel pressure isolator for the fuel pressure gauge(your going to need it) it is available through jeg's summit etc. for $119.00 it includes the correct brass isolator and stainless hose etc,, part#105-5282 which hooks to fuel pressure regulator then to fuel pressure gauge in car(it contains antifreeze on the line in the car(isolates it from fuel under hood)..vac line goes to boost gauge(you will need and adapter with a barbed fitting to thread onto the back(cheap homedepot lowes autozone etc.)and to intake manifold. Lights go in the sockets and hook up to factory dimmer for dash lights(+)socket for light is metal with spikes so it self grounds to guage chassis of each gauge and a ground wire (-) is hooked on the stud on the back of each gauge to ground to chassis of car. hope this helps..

Good explanation. I was about to install a set myself. I appreciate the insight.

Yes, thank you for the information very detailed by all of you and good guidance, I will order the fuel pressure isolator, the boost is already on a AutoMeter gauge (on driver side pillar) I will relocate it to the center.

Thanks!

JR

question the part recommend says:

"It is rated at 200 psi working pressure with a maximum rating of 300 psi. "

Will it still work with 0-100 psi?

Regards,
JR

I got the part# off an original saleen one isolator made by(autometer) says part# right on it..I bought a new one for a spare last year when my stock one started reading low and then it quit working after car sat for a while..I pb blastered it inside (isolator) and changed and added coolant to the line and and hooked it up and it worked (the old one(there was obviously air in it)**NOTE-sometimes there's even a little air in them direct from autometer**I hooked another under hood fuel pressure gauge (aeromotive) I use on the dyno and the two were spot on to each other..funny thing is the saleen one had always been off by about 7 psi across entire range for the 14yrs iv'e owned the car (fuel pressure gauge) since I bought it now its perfect lol (The sending unit for isolator is labeled max 300psi right on it, to answer your question..yes it will work. The boost gauge was originally off by 1 psi (full range) and i used an accurate gauge and one of the flowfit seat hand pumps to get it spot on...
I like my gauges to all read accurately...

Oh forgot to mention I changed out all the bulbs to led in interior, gauges, dome light etc.everything about 7 years ago.. The boost and fuel pressure gauges look amazing!!!They are SUPER bright!! The (white) saleen gauges you have might be too bright though..in led
Just a thought,
James D

Thanks 1989_402 and Dave,

Thanks for the details, I will order the fuel isolator,

I will borrow the LEDs from the Gauge cluster to see how they look with LEDs or if I will use the regular lights.

Thanks,
JR
