Default Q: 2004 S281 SC values?

Hello,
I was on the lobby forum and recieved some great info on a Saleen I am looking at purchasing. How do I put a true value on the car? The owner is willing to work on the price, but what is it really worth.
The car is a:
2004 Saleen S281 SC Convertible #100
Oxford White
Black Top
Black Wheels
Automatic
70k miles
4 owners
right fender had superficial damage and minimum paintwork back in 2005

The front bumper cover is missing the correct black-out on the front bumper cover in the large center air intake.

The drivers side chevrons appears to be space incorrectly.

Black wheels, windshield tint band and cowl hood are not factory items from Saleen.

Pony grill emblem missing.

I would guess value at $16,000.00.

How important is the automatic transmission to you?

Dave,
The auto is important to me personally, my Dad who is disabled cannot drive standard. I would like him to be able to enjoy a Sunday drive. I also want to take it back to all original, like when new. Is it hard to find OEM parts?
Thanks for the quick responses,
Tom

Hi Tom. Yes, you can find an original used Saleen heat extractor hood or purchase a new reproduction.

Original Saleen wheels can still be found on eBay and Craigslist. Your car could have had silver, white or chrome finish wheels originally.

The current estimate is... Saleen produced ten 2004 S281 Supercharged models with the automatic transmission. Of these, seven where convertible. Of these, one was Oxford White.

So, if you would love to have a white, factory SC convertible from the 2004 model year... you do not have much to choose from.

PS: If you are interested, contact Saleen Automotive to find out the original build scheme of this vehicle.

I did talk to Saleen again Oxford white chrome wheels black chevrons. Spoke to owner wheels are the originals stripped and powder coated black. Chrome was messed up I looked at them they have the raised Saleen name in between the spoke.
I really like the white and it's an auto. Thanks for the overflow of info on the car, this forum is awesome.
Thanks, Tom

As of today, the automatic trans vehicles have no increase in value. Some might even say this option decreases the value.

Don't touch it. Not the correct hood. Did not do the Cobra R hood for that year Saleen. This may not be a true Saleen. Did you check out the Badges for the matching #`s. I have an original S281 SC 2004 Automatic with heat extractor hood. #260. Super condition with 32,000 miles.

There were only 10 automatics out of 400 Saleens produced that 2004 year. I find that hard to believe.

Depending upon the condition... but fair value for a 30k miler might be low 20's for a coupe and a couple a thou higher for a convertible. Appraisal value might come in higher, but I find the NADA values a little optimistic. I think the years the new edge, particularly the 03 and 04 might be holding flat to slightly declining still... I also find the 03 and 04 Cobras as being proxies for Saleens and values are about equal for same condition vehicles.

Default 2004 S-281 SC Convertible #100 Automatic Value

Hello again it has been a while, still toying with purchasing this Saleen. So I did confirm with California this is a true Saleen 2004 #100 automatic convertible Oxford white. The hood as we know is not correct and the owner has the original chrome wheels. It is a 1 of 1 produced in this combination. The car has currently 70,000 on it. I would have to find a heat extractor hood but that's really it.The values on this are all over the board I still cannot get a true value, any numbers would help.

Since there is such a huge gap between low and high on NADA do you feel 23k is a good value?
Thanks, Tom

Do you have the correct hood? I think you might hit the 20K mark but start higher and you can always come down.
