Help: AOD transmission
My car cam originally equipped with the ever so wonderful AOD. The previous owner put a PATC AO Dominator in to replace the factory unit. He also installed a B&M hammer shifter.
My car will not go into second gear. I've tried manually shifting, I've tried flooring it, I've tried going from a roll, nothing. It literally goes from 1-3-OD. If I leave it in overdrive it will downshift to 3 for a split second before shift back to OD. Does anyone have any suggestions? |

Do you EVER have to nudge the shifter to start the car in park??? If so your cable is to tight and needs adjustment...This can cause the symptoms your mentioning.

It sounds like you don't have second gear anymore.
Do the rest of the gears feel "normal" when it shifts from 3rd to OD? I'm wondering if the second gear clutch pack went south. Let's start simple. Did you warm the car up to operating temp and check the fluid? And if so what color is it? Contact the tranny builder and ask them what kind of fluid they recommend too.

Guys, thanks for the replies.
I do not have to nudge the shifter up for the car to start. I'm thinking that as well. That was kind of my concern. The rest of the shifts feel fine! No issues what so ever. It's probably worth mentioning that I had a bushing go bad. I didn't realize it until I noticed the car wasn't kicking down, (maybe 50 miles?) so I crawled over and under the car racking my brain. It was a little rubber bushing that connects the kick down cable to the throttle body. I'm no transmission expert but I know when the AOD cables are too tight, the transmission is a ticking bomb. I'll check the fluid and report back. Thanks for the help gentlemen. |
