I've had the oil dipstick fly out @ high boost...

Last thing I want is a dipstick flying out of a sealed blower unit spinning @ over 16,000 rpms because a path of least resistance was created.

How many hours of testing were done on this product for you to say it is safe for real world use?

Not trying to be a jerk, but owners seem to be making an impulse buy w/o asking any questions. I doubt you were the first to think of this, and feel there was a reason they were not fitted with one from the factory.

Steve,

We have done our homework as we always do and i can assure you we wouldn't release a product unless we had. We have a pretty awesome group of technicians and fabricators on staff and two independent engineers on this project.

FYI, building crankcase pressure is why you blew your dipstick out at 15 or 18 psi whichever you were at. The superchargers internal oil case creates no such pressure...and our dipstick doesn't reside inside the supercharger due to the chemicals that are present in the NYE synthetic oil used. So we're good to go!

Thank you for your input and concern.

FYI, here is the build materials just for the sealed dip stick tube portion:

1- 37 degree JIC aerospace fittings
2- T304 stainless steel flared tube with .049" thick wall
3- O-ring sealed cap with 10 threads of engagement

All of this precaution on a completely non-pressurized gear case. Your brake lines wished they had this kind of strength!

A blower or compressor, usually driven by the engine, for supplying air under high pressure to the cylinders of an internal-combustion engine.

I was keen on the excessive crankcase pressure, that's why they invented breathers. I was using it as an example.

You skirted my question on how many hours of testing were done...

I see in your later post it has O-ring and threads. If there is no pressure, what necessitated it being engineered this way?

I hope it's a legit part, it will be helpful to owners. My dad always told me if you don't ask questions, you will never know. In the past I have not asked the tough questions and I've been burned by it.

Steve,

If you don't know how a series vi supercharger is built, I would become more familiar with its internals and how it was designed and built prior. FYI, the gear case is in a completely separate housing as the screws, therefore shares none of the pressure you gave definition for.

As far as the "hours tested" I didn't "skirt" anything, I gave you the information you needed. We do not divulge our testing and manufacturing proceedures. However, just like anything we do...we stand behind our work 100%.

For something your not going to buy, your being quite thourough.

"I see in your later post it has O-ring and threads. If there is no pressure, what necessitated it being engineered this way?". We designed it to have an moisture tight seal since will be a permanent fixture.

FYI, this wasn't something we just slapped together.. This has been a project on our plate for several months. We have had Saleen involved, and even a few members on here were knowledgeable about the extensive homework done on this....one even leaked it a few days ago BARRICADE!!!

How do you know I wasn't going to buy one?

I'm aware of the design, but don't agree with you that there is no pressure in that area. But I'll agree to disagree since your starting to get all sensitive on me. When you develop a product you need to be prepared to answer questions about it. That is part of it. It's not just a produce it and we always take your word for it.

I was just trying to ascertain @ what boost this was tested at w/o failure. I don't think you would be "divulging" anything to your demise by sharing that for the forum members. Manufacturers most often give real world testing scenarios as a selling point. I don't think that is out of line by any stretch. We are talking about a relatively inexpensive part going onto a very expensive part.

Steve, there's no sensitivity here! Don't read into text to much, there no emotion in it. It's all good!!! I welcome the questions by you and other members! And as you can tell I'm prepared for your questions.

A good debate if you will is always good exercise IMHO. Have a good weekend Steve and everyone else!

I would say you are about half prepared, the other half is Matt on speed dial. lol

You have not been forthcoming, so I am left to assume that this has not been tested to high levels of boost.

"FYI," I wasn't looking for a debate, just answers to my questions.

No, the "Saleen" logo'd fuel rails were discontinued when FORE Precision went out of business.

FYI... For those of you concerned, not only does the gear case not build pressure, but it is vented to prevent it from ever building pressure.

Thank you
Jess

Jason, I'm ready to order but I have a couple of questions: am I correct in believing the dipstick tube also serves as the oil fill tube? Also, is it possible to "overfill" the oil reservoir? Thanks, John.

You can use it to fill, but it's not really practical to do a fill with it. It's main purpose is to monitor the cases level against leaks. The oil isn't consumed so in theory it should always be full. If its not, a service is needed. But to monitor the fluid currently, a bit of disassembly of the supercharger is needed.

Not saying this will happen to Saleen Series VI blower owners or knocking the 281 product in any way, or that the design of a KB blower is the same as a Saleen, but be sure you have this threaded and tightened properly at all times. I would hate to see someone damage a Vented Aluminum hood that is nearly impossible to replace.

Taken from an article on page 69 of the July 2012 issue of 5.0 magazine. The owner had a 2.2 KB blower.

Yes it is! We went to great lengths to be able to use them! Not only are they strong, metal and packing a high quality o-ring, but they come with the Saleen logo! It was a win win all the way! So much that we ended up using t-304 seem less stainless steel tubing so we could cut the threads and still have enough strong material that it would lnt break after time. The first material we used was brake lines which had a small failure rate after endurance testing. So we went with a material 5 times the cost so we could use those caps! Lol.

Hmmm, you got me Jason. I might as well get one too while you have my unit. Seems like a useful tool to keep me from toasting the new screws

I'm sending you an email so you can add it to my invoice...and maybe a couple other little things

mahhar,
I fly thru Dubai every few months. Sweet cars out there, but I curious what trusted performance shops you would have there. The market is there, but I havent seen any custom shops yet.

But you are in luck. I have the solution for you. Ship your sc to Jason at 281motorsports. They are rebuilding mine now...with new screws. A Saleen engineering highly recommended him to me. After working with him over the last couple weeks, I can promise you he is the real deal.

Supercharger replacement parts are usually hard to come by because manufactures don't want you rebuilding them incorrectly. Many of my customers end up learning that the hard way. Someone recently used engine motor oil on one we have in the shop now to either fool the buyer and/or hide the failed screw bearings.

I would contact Procharger and ask them if they will rebuild it for you, I would imagine they would. If not, give us a call and we'll handle it for you.

You can through the tube, but if your low...your leaking somewhere and it needs to be checked.
