Q: Chrome or White wheels?
I need your help!! I just purchased 94-98 Saleen wheels and don't know what to do.
I have the White powdercoat ones on right now and I think they make the car look sporty. The ones I just bought are chrome and are in really good shape. My question is should I leave them as is or sandblast them and powdercoat them white? Thanks, ~Manny |

Tough call.
I really like the white though. Not much of a colored wheel fan, except for a couple very specific combos. White on white being one of them. :) |

I agree with fud, tough call.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of white with white wheels, though. I must say, the photo with chrome wheels leaning against the car makes a great argument for a pro-chrome statement. I would recommend if the chrome finish is presentable. Leave the wheels shinny. Mount them to the car and see if you like 'em. If not, you can always change the finish later. Here's a photo of white with white. I can't find a white and chrome. |

Fellas, it is really tough! Whats hurts the most is the fact that the chrome is in good shape. The powdercoating shop wants $200 to sandblast the chorme off and $340 to powdercoat them white. I totally agree with you guys, I prefer the White on White.
Thanks for your words! |

Why not keep both sets?
One set for racing and one for street or just for a change once in a while. They Both look great! Eric |

Indeed. The friend I bought my car from has an extra set of Saleens he had powdercoated black with Kumho Ecsta V700 Competition rubber on them that he used for autocrosses and track days. I plan on picking them up (with the rubber) in the spring. I won't say what he's asking for them, because it makes me feel guilty I'm going to do it. :) |

True, the only problem is (not really a problem) the white ones on the car right now are 8.5" all around. The new chrome ones are 9" and 10". I like the look of the fat tire in the back. I was going to powercoat the chrome ones and sell the 8.5's.

dmustangracer,
My '97 came with 245/40ZR-18's on all four rims. After receiving this message... Eric, The alignment spec we used for the 1997 would be carry over from the 1997 Mustang GT, As for the tire size, the largest size we offered on the rear for 1997 was P285/40/R18 so anything smaller should fit the vehicle and the Saleen rim. Thanks, Ken Gobart Saleen Ford Dealer Technical Support Phone 248.743.6241 Fax 248.743.6479 Email: Ken.Gobart@Saleen.com Saleen Inc. 1225 E. Maple Rd. Troy, MI 48083 Vehicle PCM's are shipped to my attention to the above address. ** This email may be a recommendation for repair and may not constitute a warranty claim against Saleen. ** ...I looked closer at my 18 X 8.5 rims. There are two DIFFERENT off-sets! I ended up with 2 255/40ZR-18's on the front and 2 275/40ZR-18's on the back. MUCH BETTER!!!!!!! Eric |

Wow,
Thanks for the info, I was told you were pushing it when sitting on 265 or 275 in the back. I was aiming at 295 in the back and 265 or 275 in the front. Does anybody run 275 in the front?? The biggest I've ever ran were 265 33 18. I'm wondering if you have turning issues. Quote:

With the 275's the tire sits just inside the wheel-well by about 1/2".
After I had the tires on the car, I looked through my paperwork. Sure enough...255/40-18 front and 285/40-18 rear was an option! (DUH!) I'll get my eldest son to take some pictures and post them here and in the photo section. Eric |

Not to keep using this photo, but it's easy and I'm a fan of 95-0095. Forum member sleeper (aka: flofit, saywhen, marcus) went with 295/30 rear & 255/35 front with two series from the BFG company. Very very old Comp T/As. 295/35 rear & 245/40 front. |

Marcus (sleeper, flofit, saywhen) owned the white & blue coupe. It was for sale again not long ago, not sure where it went. Marcus educated me on tire sizes and what looked good and I kept the photo for reference. |
