Default The XP8 vs Bambi

Just 11 days after totalling my SVT Focus, involving a person who was DWI, Bambi decides to end himself on the side of the XP8. Luckily I swerved enough to avoid front end damage and especially the hood! I'm happy I dodged that bullet but I still have some work to do to make sure it's repaired correctly. Not sure what can be saved. The mirror broke off but I think the cover is fine. Luckily I have spares of the entire kit also, other than the hood and wing. I'm still hoping they can salvage the side and rocker panels. I have a source to duplicate the decals. It will be done right!

LOL

Thanks guys. It could have been waaay worse, I know. Wouldn't take too much more to total this old rare bird.
Estimator today said about $2300 in damage. The rocker panel can be reshaped. Somehow they included the two decals, not sure if they can copy them or what. A local guy said he could use the two on the passenger side to make new ones.
And supposedly they can get the mirror cover through a local Saleen dealer, Inver Grove Ford. I'm skeptical of that though, thought those went the way of the other reproduction XP parts.

Sorry to hear about the encounter. At least no one was hurt, well except for Bambi of course. Good luck with the repairs.

Hey my brother has an awesome set of tools. We can fix it!

Andy sorry to hear, e-mail me about stripes I might have an extra set. I know Greg might have had an extra door piece or two. Fenders are pretty straight forward. You wanted to repaint that XP anyhow didn't you?

Yeah, I don't feel so bad for Bambi. He obviously had grown quite tired of living!

Thanks Luke. I actually have a spare kit from a clone I parted, minus the wing and hood. I think the stripes are fine but I'll let you know. I would LOVE a full restoration actually but that's just not in the cards. I was going to look into seeing if they can give me a discount on filling the old hood pin holes in the hood and painting the rest of the front end. That'll depend on price though.

I don't remember that line from Fast Times. I've only seen it once though. Well before my time

Yeah I'd call it lucky. Truck is in body shop now. Sounds like they can repair all the Saleen parts that aren't available.
Hennie, I should have saved it! No blood or guts, probably just a broken neck. Oh well!

I think I'll be picking it up today sometime. There was some confusion on the decal duplicating: The original duplicator needed the truck onsite so the body shop hired a different guy. This new guy can't duplicate the fading effect of the stripes though. I wasn't any where near open to forgoing 100% accuracy. I'll just have to get them duplicated after the fact. I'll let you know Todd

I was told that this place - http://www.goldenstatestripes.com/ had the exact match. I know I bought some bumper numbers from them and they were perfect.

Not sure which stripes are the same as the XP's. I'll see what this guy can duplicate them for and go from there.

I did in fact get the truck today. Looks like everything is back to normal otherwise! They were able to remove and reinstall the mirror cover on a new mirror. They added some new clear coat to that. He also clear coated the airbag cover with Steve's graffiti. I noticed after less than a year that was starting to fade.

Glad to hear you got it back and they did a nice job... on the decals, I was told regular 99-04 for the side stripes.

Figured I'd update this: the truck was successfully repaired and any Saleen part that was damaged was repaired so luckily I didn't have to use any of my spare parts. I then had every single decal on the truck duplicated and replaced. Figured I might as well since I was there. I also had the door stickers duplicated (VIN and Saleen tire specs) and had the windshield banner remade with a correct curvature. It was a bit of a pain making sure everything looked and was applied exactly the way it was but in the end it looks better than it did. Then today I did a deep polish/waxing, just before its 180,000 milestone

The decal shop can print new decals at anytime. If anyone ever needs them, let me know. I made sure all of them were as close to original as possible, down to the 1/16". I could tell the shop was a bit annoyed at my extreme OCD but in the end they did an awesome job with all of them.
