Hey Jason see you in 3 weeks, Matt has some posters for me.

Here is side photo of the car at the track last week, I knew it was lifting but wow looks like I have to put pins on it.

Great day didn't better any times but good practice.

Wow, that hood is really grabbing some air. I think I would move to a cowl induction hood. Might improve your lap times as well by lowering drag.

Neither of these companies have these nor will they. They are not available any longer. There will be a composite replacement available soon.

Thank you
Jess

It's the Ford design of the headlight placement and the overhanging hood that causes the problem, not the hood scoop (although it may not help). The lighter hoods also flex more. Air hits the headlights and pushes straight up on the front edge of the hood. There has been lots of discussion about the effects of pressure differentials causing lifting as well, but the original Ford design was flawed. Every other hood follows the same body line and overhang. My Alum hood did the same thing, until I added WMS stealth pins. Those won't work with the fiberglass hoods.

Search for Stealth pins and you will find pictures of my hood lift about an inch on each side at the headlight.

Not sure but isn't that a decal on the hood?

Mike at PAS was showing me around this car the other day. It's in the back of their shop right now. I think it will be there for the open house. Wish I could be there for it but I'll be cruisin it up in Hawaii. Would that rear wing be too much on my Extreme??

I believe what kss113 is saying is that it is a ford racing part.

Actually You are right "Gray is Grey". I have some family members that work in NASCAR and those cars are all decals. So I new it was a decal, or could be painted, but my guess is a decal.

But that would be a bad *ss hood, if it were real.
Either way no sweat, just having some fun..

Tiger Racing makes this hood, but it is not for Street use. It is for track ONLY, this hood is super thin and only weighs 9 pounds, you probably wouldn't want to use it for everyday driving. It just wouldn't hold up that long. They do make one for the 05-09 also though. If you do decide to get it you have to figure a way of attaching it to the car. The hinges don't just bolt right the hood like a production one. You need to either bond a bolt plate to the hood, or bolt the hinges through the top of the hood which is what many of the racers do. And you MUST use 4 hood pins with these hoods.

Thank you
Jess

I do still have some of the mesh inserts for those but they are really expensive. I will try to come up a better price for them if possible.

Eh, a car is a car. Sorry but unless you plan on storing your car away for 30 years and driving it 100 miles a year good luck getting any real value out of it. Never understood why people bought something that depreciates in value everytime you use it as an investment. Different strokes for different folks I suppose. Me, I had no problems hacking away at my hood to add a shaker. I bought my car to drive, not have a mental breakdown over a hood.

It wasn't directed toward anyone in particular. Just the synopsis of the thread was that people are hoarding spare car parts in hopes that the cars they drive everyday will hold some 'collectors value.' At least that's what I take when people write things such as "I bought a spare 'random Saleen part here' so my car is worth money down the road when I put it back on." I could be wrong, but if you worry about parts breaking down on your car, odds are you put considerable miles on it, which leads to my original point in not understanding why people buy a car, drive it, then hope it's worth money in 10-20 years because it has a number on the bumper. Again, just my 2 cents. To each his own.

Precisely. To me investing in a car you drive is a lot like investing in boob implants for your wife. Sure she's hot and the talk of the town now, but you mine as well ride her for as many miles as shes worth cuz come 50 years from now when she's used and abused good luck finding anyone that wants to take her off your hands!

I think aside from keeping the car in its original form, if anything i just want genuine Saleen parts on it.. I don't care about cutting my hood and putting in the supershaker and also ditching the 7 spokes for the 5 spoked wheels.. As long as you aren't turning the car into frankenstein it will sell when you want to get rid of it. If you bought these cars new for the MSRP there is no way in hell you are getting close to your money back and that's the story with any modern car. So drive it like you stole it, compared to the MSRP of my Extreme i pretty much did. LOL.

This argument will come up time and time again. Personally I am a believer in keeping the cars original, but the more people out there that hack holes in their cars, the rarer mine becomes - so hack away! The bottom line is "to each his own" - I'll respect people's desire to mod and personalise their cars, as long as they respect my desire to keep my car "all-original".

As for long-term value, etc - I plan to keep my car for a loooong time. Yes, I think 25, and more, years ahead - so not just how much I enjoy the car today, but also how much I will enjoy the car for many years to come. The future $$$ value of the car is not all that important, as I don't intend to sell. However, the future "worth" is important to me - even if $$$s isn't the best way to calculate that worth. I think a 25-year old Saleen that is all-original will be "worth" more than a 25-year old Saleen that has been modified by a string of owners (to me, at any rate).

Cheers,
Chris.

+1......Still waiting to get my SuperShaker installed. After a few delays, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it happens next week!

Agreed, drive it like you stole it, but if you live in deer country knowing you can replace your hood makes the drive all the better.

Oh yeah, and then I should also buy one of these:

http://www.fuelshark.com/Default.asp?bhcp=1

and one of these:

http://www.vorteccyclone.com

Seriously though, even if they did work I would just be flushing the deer from the trees into the street at every apex of a turn.

I am actually thinking of selling my hood and replacing it with a cowl induction hood. I have no fear of modding my car even if it means that it's not wearing a Saleen part. Might get rid of the wing next if I can figure out what to do about the holes it would leave. Besides I don't invest in cars that's not a wise area to expect a good return on your money.

For $899 I'm sure there is the same underside to it for the functional heat extractor to work. From what i remember Jess said it would be identical to the Aluminum but made out of fiberglass, which would make sense considering they probably could make the mold for the fiberglass from one of the aluminum hoods..
