Default Painted Saleen quarter window trim?

Has anyone tried this? I know that the factory original are raw abs plastic. I'm just thinking out loud for a minute. I have a black car and I am replacing those panels because the others were cracked. Wondered how they would look painted black to match the body color along with the side mirrors? Looked online for pictures but could not find any. Any thoughts?

The original trim is textured. Texture + Body color =

How about the Extreme window deletes or the Heritage cap deletes?

I understand that Dave but a few years ago I painted the mirrors and wiper cowl of my '95 GT body color which was chrome yellow and even though they were textured, looked smooth as glass after a few coats of paint and clear coat. They turned out awesome!

I was going to do extreme deletes until I removed the old trim. After nearly a decade in the car, the trim scratched and rubbed off paint where the trim made contact with the body around the quarter windows. I would have to paint all of it if I did the extreme deletes. :-(

Found a few people who have do the mirrors and they look great. Don't see why the quarter trim would be any different. Maybe I'll be the guinea pig…

I for one, think they look much better than unpainted plastic.

Fully painted mirrors looks awesome! We have done dozens of them. But, the BEST look is to get 2010+ mirrors and paint them. IF you have the Saleen hood the body lines of the hood scream right into the lines on the mirrors, and the body of the 2010 mirror isnt so bulky.

Well, I decided to be the guinea pig. Quarter window panels are at the painters along with the mirrors. Painter will prime them smooth and paint them body color. I'll post some pics when they're done...

Painted and ready to install. No more texture either. Smooth as glass. Pretty excited to see them on the car.

Default I did it! Painted quarter window louvers.

Against the advice of several members here, I decided to be the first person to paint my quarter window louvers. I'm glad I dared to be different. I think they turned out amazing…

They look nice. However, be prepared for cracking. These will flex differently from the body and will cause cracking in the paint. The 2007 SEMA showcar in Cherrybomb paint has the same issue. I'd say fixing yours in 5 years vs. Cherrybomb might be much easier and I like the look.

Digging the accent colors too, btw.

They crack regardless of being painted or not anyway. That's the reason I replaced them. Old ones were cracked and ugly. Saleen window louver's are like tires and serpentine belts. They'll need to be replaced every few years.

Thanks for the compliments.

Looks great. Did you use factory paint? Any changes to the mixture? Did you do any specific surface prep to the panel to promote adhering?

No special prepping. Skuffed 'em up. A few coats of primer until they were smooth. Painted with the same OEM base-coat then clear-coat.

So as promised pics of my cervinis c style scoops. I have to say that I do like the look. however the fit was not perfect which surprised me because I thought of cervinis as top of the line. the driver side scoop fit along the body ok, however the passenger side scoop had about a 1/2 gap on top and bottom at the front of the scoop, I ended up filling with silicone around the scoops and it looks like there is a gasket under it so it looks good. I searched on the net and saw a few people with my exact issue. bottom line, have them fitted first! enjoy! :)

Would love to know how you removed them from the car. Mine have been cracked since I have owned the car and desperately need to replace them.
