Default Q: 1997 S351 header upgrade?

I would like to upgrade my 1997 #28 S351 to long tube headers from the stock Saleen shorties. Would I look for 351 swap headers or will 95 to 95 5.0 long tubes fit? Has anyone done this upgrade?

Kenny: Ive read a couple S351 articles in mags where people had done this and I think its pretty straight forward. The only thing that might come into play is our engines sit a lil farther back in the car than a stock 94-95 5.0. Id look for 351 swap headers cause you'll need diff styled headers due to a taller 351 engine. Also, you'll need to change your midpipe to match up to the long tube collectors. But since 351 swaps are common in the SN95 platform, plenty of people make headers that should bolt in nicely. Keep us posted

Kooks is the only company that makes a set that fit. You will however have to call them and have them made since the motors are set back and set a little lower.

How did Saleen set the motors back and lower? Different K member or motor mounts?

If memory serves me correctly, when engineering the V8 SN-95 Mustang, Ford Motor Company moved the engine forward to ease dropping the drivetrain from the top during assembly (like all Mustangs before). After this, a decision was made to load the drivetrain from the bottom. The pushed forward engine placement remained for production, though no longer necessary.

If I recall from an article back when the "new" Saleens were introduced; the 351 engines used 302 headers. They were just lowered n moved back by notching the hole location and using early 5.0 convertible mounts. Any one?

The vert mounts were modified somewhat. They were the 83 specific. Ford made a replacement for them however they raised the motor back up. The next gen mounts were completely different.
