Default Q: 2002-04 Exteme or 2003-04 SVT Cobra?

I'm sorry if this topic has been beat to death... I've had a 03 Cobra before as well as a 02 s281-SC. The Saleen was a major disappointment as far as power goes compared to the Cobra (for obvious reasons). In the looks department, Saleen wins, IMO, no competition there...

Then you bring in the Extreme in the mix... Specifically the 02-04 version... Just trying to get some opinions from you guys on what to you think would be a better car. I'm not too into speed, but knowing I could have the power is helpful. I love the sound of the Root blower and the looks of both cars... This would be a toy, so to say... Take to car shows, enjoy it on the weekends etc etc.

Let me know what you guys think.

thanks!

How about the Saleen Cobra? I believe only 65 were produced in the 1999-2004 generation, including the unicorn, Saleen Cobra Mystichrome 04-0104.

Production: http://soec.org/vehicle/mustang/

Impossible to find and probably would cost an arm and a leg.

The white one? That's not a real saleen. It's a cobra with a body kit.

What power levels would be where you would consider it correct and own able...?

The 4v 03/04 cobra is likely the better of the cars for the hobbyist and tinkerer.
It has the IRS, the 4v and 600rwhp is an SC swap and a couple hours worth of work.
Then you have the factory 6 speed.

The saleen does look a lot better.

Just yesterday someone listed a Saleen with a cobra swap

I saw that one. It's interesting no doubt about that. So in your opinion, extreme is not worth the time over cobra?

I'm no E expert nor am I a fan of the 2v (with a friend owning a mustang only shop I've seen my share of modded 2v's).

So i'm biased.

The 03/04 wreaks of potential. And with a 2 year only run and everyone modifying the hell out of them (something I am all for), as a factory ford car it will surely be worth more in the future.
Without a doubt has more power potential, with a pulley, CAI and a tune my car made 480rwhp and 500rwtq...

The extreme is definitely easier on the eyes and also a better conversation piece.

I think you have to choose what is most important to you.
If I was into new edges, i'd probably build the factory long block then 03 cobra swap the top end.

That's very helpful. Thank you for the post man. Makes perfect sense.

If you are looking for collectability and have the willpower to keep the mileage down the Extreme would be a better choice. If you want more of a weekend driver that you don't mind putting mileage on and want to modify for more power the Cobra would be the car.

Default Extreme

You already know what I am going to say...but no seriously if you plan on driving often and actu fully enjoying it...go for the cobra...the E is a conversation piece...with a lot of power. .but you are not really ripping into it ever. Although the E will probably never dip below I'd say a $12-15k value...so long term its definitely a better investment. Good luck...where is this E we are looki ng at? :)

It's the Gray one on Ebay... In Houston, TX. 02-0054.

Is there a link somewhere where it shows how many saleens were made with certain color in each year? Doesn't have to be an Extreme... even regular one?

The E was an easy decision for me. I wanted something with the power of a stock Termi but something much MUCH more exclusive. And like DarkStallion said, a conversation piece. With forged internals and its iron block, the 2v is quite formidable. There's a reason Saleen decided to use it instead of the 4v. Why? I'm not entirely sure but from what I've been told by those in the speed shop world, one could easily spool up the E's motor many times past its stock power, but it's so incredibly fun to drive as is.

I saw #54 on Ebay also a few days ago. One of 3 Mineral Grey E's from what I remember. I can tell you it's a cool color to own

What sucks is I can't talk to the owner of that E and negotiate with him. These guys have the vehicle on consignment and are selling it for the owner... I'm sure they're getting a nice cut from it. If I could bypass them... I could save a few grand. HA!

You can negotiate price with the consignment shop. The last time I used Gateway Classic Cars they added their commission and then some money to the total price after that to give themselves some negotiating room. They can also go to the owner with whatever offer they get and try to see if they will take less. The price for that car is pretty good for what you are getting.

Yeah, I did. Still pondering though. It has a bit too many miles for a "collectible". Ha!

In your opinion, is that too many miles for an extreme? I know the one you have barely has any miles... Also, most of the other E's are all under 20k miles... this one is up there... Not a lot for an 02, but a lot from a collectible stand point, right?

For a collectible-yes. For a driver-no. If mine had that mileage I would be enjoying it more. If I didn't have other cars to enjoy I would not be able to keep the mileage down on my E.

Unfortunately no I don't. I need to update my signature - some are sold and other new ones.

What are some of the places where we could buy parts for a saleen? Smaller pulley, Fuel upgrades etc? Maybe some of the stock replacement parts? I'm having hard time finding anything on the web. Also, what's going on with Chicane website? I can't find that anymore either. Used to have their Intercooler when I had my 02 a while back.

Do a few google searches for Joe at chicane. It's not good news...
