The "Torch Red" photo is from 2007 when Frank Morales owned the Cobra. I believe he was the second owner.

My memory fails, but I believe the story goes that the original owner pestered Frank to sell the car back to him... and this transaction eventually happened. I believe Frank may have breifly regretted selling when he found what happened to the car.

The "Lizstick" appearance is how the car currently looks.

This is probably the chassis being prepped for paint back in 2008.

Default Saleen Cobra

Hey Dave, was there any method to Paint procedures are Saleen?
03-291 has a black engine bay, Extreme Rainbow exterior. It looks like this Cobra, had the engine taken out and the engine bay sprayed? When 03-291 was new I inquired about this, but was given a generic response.

Saleen Performance had a list of preferred base colors for their custom paint option. Example: Laser Red and Redfire for a Lizstick conversion. Chrome Yellow / Zinc Yellow for a Speedlab Yellow conversion. Satin Silver for a HiHo Silver conversion, etc etc.

Black was the recommended color for an Extreme Rainbow conversion.

It is typical for the SN-95 and New Edge custom paint cars to not have a repainted engine compartment.

If you ordered a Beryllium car, and if it was based on a silver chassis, then the engine compartment was repainted. If you ordered a Rainbow car, and if it was based on a Rio Red chassis, then the engine compartment was repainted.

Some of the S197 cars make sense, while others do not. In some cases Saleen tried to base the custom paint 2005-09 cars on top of similar Ford colors... but a number of S197 cars are based on what they had. Meaning Lizstick on top of Grabber Orange.

It appears the repaint was performed by Speedlab in Saleen Irvine before they moved out.

Word on the street says... this car recently changed hands.

Word also says new owner may think it was an original custom paint car... this was not an original custom paint car.

Carry on.
