My project begins... The build of the SA10 #4 chassis
As many of you know (or may not know), I bought the chassis that would have been SA10 #4. My plan is to build it with the exact Saleen Performance catalog pieces as if I would have ordered the car from Saleen in 1993. This is the projects of all projects for me.
Instead of trying to update multiple threads on several forums I've decided to create a website for my build process. I'll also add a little info to the website about the 9 cars that were built by Saleen Performance in 1993 and 1994. It's amazing to me how these cars have a cult following by hard core Saleen enthusiasts. And not only are those enthusiasts interested but in chatting with friends of mine who have owned high end Porsche's and Ferrari's but those people are interested as well. So a website was the best answer. I just created it last night and will be working on the main page which will have information about the 10 cars ordered and which ones were built. www.puristmotorsports.com I won't be divulging any VIN info or major details about each car. That information will stay very generic but I will cover the base SC options the SA10's were based on. My first detail is to thank Marcus and Joe Gosinski. Without either of them I wouldn't have this opportunity. It saddens me to no end that Joe was taken from us just 6 months after I got this car. We were in talks about the "ultimate SA10 motor" build up. Check out the site. I'll add a build process blog for people to connect to in the near future. Thanks Greg. I plan to drive it up to the PAS open house in July. It will just be a black LX with Stern's at that point.

Ed, Yes this is the one. That's why I said the script on it was perfect. It matches the other cars Saleen put that valve on in 1993.
Greg, I could use a 93 catalog if you have one. I have the 94 catalog that I think I got from you. I can't remember. |

Greg is the man! We all knew that. :) it will be good to chat with you in person man. Last time I called you were knee deep in dirt working on a well.
I hope to get some content and pics uploaded tonight of the car when I bought it last year. It's a crazy story. Almost worthy of being in "The Cobra In The Barn". |

Added my story on how I got the car and started the blog. Also added some content on the SA10's in general. I have a direct link coming to the literature here on the SOEC site.

Looks like a fun project! Congratulations on the find.
You'll have to locate one of the old/original SOEC window decals/transfers. Or one of the first "Charter Member" decals. |

Let me know if you need any help. I have located original Champ wreathes for all years. They are pretty old so I don't know how well they will stick.

Matt, I'll need the wreath that says "SCCA Endurance Manufacturer's Champion". The SA10 cars didn't have the ones with the years on them. If you have one I'd gladly take one. Don't care if it will stick or not because I can have it reproduced if I have to.
Dave, Talked to an SA10 owner who might have one from a show in 1996 where they were handed out to everyone. |

Larry, I really appreciate you carving out some time to visit. Great to meet you too!
Greg, I've been gathering parts but not making much progress on the car. It's currently sitting on jack stands with the cat back hanging loose on it and the H pipe on the floor under it with no headers on the motor. The shifter is sitting on the work bench because I drained gear oil out of the tranny to put Mercon back in it. I did get the aluminum driveshaft installed. LOL! |

Added more info and if you want sign up for the RSS feed on the blog. I've specifically added info on what the "base" was for the SA10 car. It's rather confusing because they're all so different and there almost wasn't a "base" option list. It really boils down to a "starting point" for each buyer.
Greg a.k.a. SMOD, I totally forgot to grab a 93 SPP catalog. We were focused on Guchi and totally forgot. LOL! |

Interesting find and nice build...is this going to be a 100% correct type of restoration (even though they were one off's) or are you going to do some nice modern "retro-mod" type of things to it?

What's even better? Looking through your photos has brought back a LOT of memories on when I was modifying my 89-0402 back in 1994-2000. My last setup was the Saleen intake (made by Vortech), Edelbrock heads, Vortech, LT headers, custom cam and some other stuff...fun car. Looking at those Saleen gauges, etc was just a trip back...good stuff.
89-0402 seems to have fallen off the face of the planet. Last known position? Tampa, FL...

My plan is to build it exactly as Saleen, or better yet Joe would have done in 1993-94. Using the catalog and finding the old parts that aren't produced and using modern versions of things like Edelbrock heads that Saleen sold in their catalog. Right now the car is just sitting. I've got a lot of the parts but have had no time to work on the car since September. I've got a video of the car when I pulled it into the driveway the first time. Need to edit that and post it.
