Default Blues to feeling better - 85-0035

Just an update on 85-0035 the car was for sale but didnt get any offers I was happy with even when I did turned it down at last minute. Anyways I decided to pull the motor and go right through it. I know for some of you die hard purists what im going to do to the motor will probibly bother some but to me these cars are ment to be driven and driven hard. That is easier and more fun with more horsepower. At this point in time the block is at machine shop I have a new eagle crank ,new forged pistons and a bunch of other parts. Haven't decided on cam specs but I am going back to a roller(had put in a flat tappet solid). I also have some aluminum heads now to put back on too. I am real excited to get it finished (could take awile ,money)and pulling motor refueld me and lit a spark under my ****! I now dont want it to sit idle in garge but to driven like it was ment to be. Will try to update with pictures and progress.

Seems like a great project! Was this the GT chassis 1985 that was for sale? That had a hood scoop.

Hey its your car, and they are more fun when they have some HP. My 85 has early TFS hi port heads, and it is way more fun than stock, have fun with yours.

This was a black hatchback, power delete with a factory Ford sunroof... correct?

The vehicle was offered as a used car years and years ago by the Corvette Center. Sound right?

At some point the vehicle went south, I believe, this Saleen did become a drag car and was modified accordingly. Caged and running large rear tires. It eventually was repainted Prowler Purple and continued racing.

About 10 years ago it was advertised sans engine on one of the popular Mustang themed forums.

This is all I recall about 88-0007.

Thanks Dave,it was the black car. It was sold to a corvette center way back when, the last time I saw it was in a magazine for sale add. Was a drag car then I guess thats what it was ment to do,it had 400 mile on it when I took it to New England dragway in epping N.H!

Hey got a whole 7 miles on car before had problems. Was in the process of taking heads off again for fear I had a leak. I had to order new gaskets for the heads, regular gaskets are way to small for the ports on the heads that are on it now. I thought I would have it all back together this past weekend but pulled off first head and the cylinders are scored, same with the other side. I had good oil pressure the whole time, primed the oil system before I started it . Not very happy called machine shop and he said he won't look at it untill I pull it and take it apart. Needless to say the car is going to sit in the corner once again after motor is out. BACK TO THE BLUES!!

Can someone look up my car in one of the saleen books?(85 saleen #35 gt car, med. canyon red with t-tops)Just looking at some old forums on Four Eyed Pride and some- one had asked how many Saleens were t-tops. Someone gave a list, mine wasn't one of them. Just thought I would ask, I know this is a true car, I was there when my dad ordered it. Thanks for the help~ Ted

Check the sticker on the drivers door.
on the bottom line, there should be a D under the S, (Between the R and AX)
If there is no D under the S, its blank and the T-Tops were installed by the dealer, not Car Craft(Ford)

Good door tag decoder here.

Ford is better at record keeping than Saleen
I would document that in case you ever decide to sell it.
A free Customer assistance center report from Ford should take care of it, or you can pay for a Marti report.
With proof in hand, you could ask Saleen to update their records.

I am the one at FEP that was asking about T-roof Saleen production because I have a Saleen database and I was trying to fill in more info.

Other than the posts you have made here, and looking at the pics of the car, I have little info on 85-0035, so I would appreciate any info you can provide....pics of door tag, buck tag, build sheet, owner card, marti report, eminger invoice, factory optons (A/C, cruise, defrost, PL, PW, tint)

Well, when/if you get around to getting pics of the items I mentioned above, I'd like to see them. T-roof /GT Saleens are a very rare animal.

It's a body-color 3˝" x 1˝" aluminum tag screwed to the front face of the top of the radiator core support (the frame that the radiator bolts to). It has a bunch of codes for how the car was supposed to be built. The picture you attached to the first post in this thread shows the buck tag peaking out from behind the "L" bracket that attaches the header panel to the core support, to the right of the hood latch.

Sweet project! Motor looks pretty hoss, I wonder who has the "fastest" '85 Saleen? I know most don't modify, (I did a little on #26 anyway), but it had a Ford reman, installed at some point, so I wasn't too worried about that all original thing. Good luck with the project!

I was in the same boat as you, all assembled ready to fire and wouldn't run at all without a mass air conversion. She runs now! Keep at it!

The hood scoop is a 82 GT style turned the other way to act like cowl induction. The hi rise intake will not fit under stock hood so I stored that in the garage and bought this after market hood and put the scoop on to clear the carb.

I would like to get some new springs and shocks for my car eventually. Were would I get the correct springs with the right spring rate and the correct Bilstien shocks . Not so much for the originalty but love the real stiff and precise ride it offers. Feels like a real car, you can feel every part of the road. Anyway any help with finding these pieces would be greatly appreciated.
