Wicked and everyone,
As much as I wanted to I will not be attending this event for the same reasons as last year (Weather forecast). I have a feeling the forecast will of course change tomorrow to sunny or something random but it's a risk considering I don't have a trailer. Represent for Saleen and post plenty of pictures afterwards please! Thanks guys! |

Awesome - Get with Robert and James from San Antonio so you can join their cruise up from San Antonio. Just sent you a PM w/ contact info! I would suggest leaving for Austin around 7:30 or 8am - so you can get to the show around 10am. (that will be around the same time the Houston group will be arriving) Also that will give you some clearance time of the 30% chance of rain from the hours of midnight to 7am. After that we will have a great forecast for the weekend !!

For the Houston and San Antonio Groups -
With you leaving at 7am or 8am in order to get to the show around 10am. You guys should be clear of any rain. The weather forcast gives it a 30% chance of rain from the hours of Midnight to 7am - so you guys lucked out !! After 7am - It looks to be a 100% chance for a perferct forcast for the Show, Cook Out, and Cruise !!!

Current forecast is 50-60% rain at our departure time. We need to get our heads together and decide if we want to take the chance.

***HOUSTON CRUISE CANCELLED***
I'm sorry to say that I won't be leading the cruise up to the MOCA show tomorrow. After talking it over with several members, I don't feel like it would be the best thing to get our cars out with the threatening weather. We might get lucky and not have any problems, or we could run into flooded roads, or worse.....hail. Best wishes to everyone at the show, I'm sure it will be a good time!

Just got off the phone with Chris who let me know that the Austin forecast is still great for the show.
Just checking the Houston forecast again, there's 100% chance of rain at 9 am which will of course be coming to us from the direction of Austin, meaning we'd be passing through that to get there. It's raining here in Katy as I type this (7:15 am) Michael (Vista Blue S-281) is heading that way anyway (kitchen pass for the weekend and wants to make the most of it!). So if anybody else is so inclined, Chris would love to have you there! I'll try to make the next one later in the year.

Had a great time!
Well except for the rain! By my arrival at 10:30 Round Rock was rain free and stayed that way. There was a trophy awarded to a member of the Saleen group, I'll let him sing about the glory. Weather was great the rest of the weekend and the cruise on Sunday was fantastic! Many thanks to Chris and his family for allowing me to crash with them, and to Vince for grilling up the post victory food!

I would've liked to have parked with you guys, but that's what I get for being the first one there. When they were parking me they asked if I was part of the Saleen Club coming in, when they found out I wasn't they had me park with the Charger guys I came up with.
Michael, thanks for taking the time to explain the WMS hood pins. I just received mine tonight. Look forward to getting them in. |

It wasn't where I thought it was... So last fall I got the chance to run my car up to a decent speed on a closed strip of concrete. Not a competion or anythign like that, just some fun. A buddy of mine took this picture as I went by at around 140 mph. Then I saw the picture and freaked out, because it looked like my hood was going to wrap around like a butterfly. I decided not to run at anything near that speed again until I got that fixed. Thanks to another Saleen owner (Mike Wiggington), I found the link to the WMS Racing site for their "Stealth Hood pins". I hated the idea of pins sticking through my hood, and I was looking for something exactly like this. Since Mike was in Germany, and confirmed the use of these pins on the Autobahn with great results, I felt I had the way to go. The only problem was the price. At $225 shipped, they are WAY more expensive than the poke two holes in your hood alternatives. You get what you pay for, and it only seemed right to have fancy pins on my fancy Saleen, so I waited until I could afford them. In addition to the price of the pins, there are the new hood struts that are required as the new pins need the location of the original hood prop (it was ugly anyway). I chose the Quickliftplus in black that I picked up from JDM Engineering (who had about the best price on them). I got the pins installed this past weekend. The hood props I put on a couple months ago when I got those. Install time in the instructions was 1-2 hours. It took me four. Now, the first two hours of that was "assisted time" with my kiddos helping. Then I spent the last hour doing final alignment, because I am overly particular. Overall, I was extremely happy with the engineering of the parts, and the thought that went into the design and construction. There were a couple parts that I looked at initially and thought "why did they do that?" but the reasons become clear as the install progresses. There is a little piece of tubing that is a perfect alignment tool for setting the pin bases, that just looked like it didn't belong. I found on my '07, that the inner skin of the hood is not in exactly the same position as the OEM Ford hood and thus required the extra foam tape to "shim" the pins, but the posibility was noted in teh instructions and the extra tape supplied. My frustrations were in the lone black zip tie that is supposed to be in the kit (it was missing and I was out of black ones), and the lack of any extra fastening screws. Even though I pre-drilled the holes for the pins, I broke two of the #6 x 1/2" Oval head SS screws screwing them in. Home Depot produced two similiar screws, but alas no SS only plated steel(so I need to find two others later). I chalked it up to manufacturing defect/installer error and moved on. There should also be an instruction to trim off the excess cable before you crimp on the end caps, obviously, I did not. So the work is done and they look great, and the hood will not lift in the corners. Update on that post...I called WMS and they sent me some replacement SS screws and the cables are supposed to be long so you can reach them from underneath to pop the hood should there be a problem with the latch.

Well Robert left his camera in the car, because you couldn't see his car through all the people!
Vince got a few pictures of the line up, and some of the show...
