Exclamation Q: Defective Air Bags, what is the repair?

There was a news story on this morning stating cars made from 2000-2011
could have defective air bags, that have already been fatal. The news stated
1 in 7 cars could have this air bag. They also mentioned all the major manufactures may have these bags. So far 43 million autos are estimated.

Wow huge amount of cars. Looks like my 2000 Saleen could be at risk.

Thanks Wyatt

I tried the previous site listed, it did not work for me. I used this site and selected Ford and put in my VIN. My Saleen is part of the recall.

Mine too. Waiting to hear from Ford dealer. Could be a long wait.

Will it require a PCM re-flash? Or just the airbag module like they did on the passenger side airbag TSB?

Got my notice last week. I'm trying to wrap my head around how that will work if they have to re flash the PCM?

Got my letter too. So, I'm guessing I take the car to the dealer. They "correct" the problem and flash the PCM, then the car doesn't run so then I'll have to pay them, and Saleen, to remove it again and send to Saleen for a re-flash. Un-freaking-believable.

There is conflicting information out there. Last I heard, the air bag recall does not require a PCM reflash.

I have no plan to have the recall work completed.

With that said, there will be a second notice when recall parts are available and we are actively seeking detailed repair instructions.

It's going to be a while before the fix is available.

Default airbag recall, anyone know the details?

I have an airbag recall question (15S21). This is for a 2006 SC with a JDM tune and an aftermarket driver seat.

Will getting the airbag/actuator replaced require putting the tune back to the stock saleen tune? Do they mess with the ECM?

Will it require re-installing the stock seat.

Hoping they just drop in the new parts and call it done.

Will find out from dealer on Monday, but just in case somebody knows....

Thanks.

I had both my 2006 and 2011 recall repaired. The dealer replaces the inflator and that is all, the entire job takes less than 30 minutes.

I watched the dealer replace mine... No PCM re-flash required. It's a VERY simple procedure... Remove (2l 10mm bolts on the sides of the steering wheel... The entire inflator assembly slides out... Unplug the electrical cable. Then four small screws hold the inflator in place. Reverse process to install. It should take about 5 minutes.

Default Driver Airbag recall 06-1264

Finally made some time to have the new airbag installed . . as mentioned in earlier post, simple procedure . . hats off to my dealer Metropolitan Ford Mpls. Master tech at the shop took special care when turning over existing bag with Saleen emblem on reverse side . . placed on numerous shop rags as to not scratch the emblem and carefully installed new bag with care . . install took only a few minutes but paper work to Ford took additonal 25 minutes . .

Default Have not done mine yet

I was told by Ford that both drivers side and passanger side airbags had to be replaced, and that only the drivers side is currently avaliable.

So I'll wait till they both are avaliable then make one trip to the dealer.
