In late summer 2010, it was reported that vandals set ablaze one of the three 2010 SMS 460s stocked at Bob Bell Ford in Glen Burnie, MD.

MILLERSVILLE, Md. - The Anne Arundel County Fire Department is asking for the public's assistance for information regarding a car fire that occurred early Wednesday, September 22.

Fire officials say the initial report came in at approximately 2:52 a.m. when firefighters were dispatched to the Bob Bell Ford in the 7100 block of Ritchie Highway, for a reported car fire.

Upon crew arrival, they found a sedan type vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

After extinguishing the fire, investigators were called to the scene, and have since opened an investigation into the incident.

The Fire Department is asking anyone with any information relating to this event to contact Anne Arundel County Arson Investigators at 410-222-TIPS (8477). Information received can be anonymous - persons do not need to leave their name or any contact information.

SMS 460 Mustang Burns to the ground at Bob Bell Ford in Maryland

September 26, 2010

In the wee ours of the morning on September 22 at Bob Bell Ford in Maryland a cleaning service employee discovered an SMS 460 Mustang valued at $60K engulfed in flames. Firefighters were called to the seen but nothing could be done, the SMS 460 Mustang was considered a total loss. The Mustang was being displayed separately from other vehicles near the front of the lot so passers by could see the limited edition Mustang.

A spokesman for the fire department said arson has not been ruled out yet but it does appear to be suspicious. J.P. Bishop, president of Bob Bell Ford said the dealership has never experienced a suspicious fire or arson of any kind.

Yeah - I saw this a couple months back !! But now it shows it was sold for $3500 !!!! DANG What a huge Loss !!! Well I like to see how much the buyer can recoupe and make profit off this car. You basically have the most of the rear to work with. 2 Wheels, rear wing, rear body kit, spare tire, shift knob ( which is crazy since it dosent look like it was damaged), and dont forget the set of floor mats that were in the trunk - lol

UGH !!!

It looks to me like someone got out of their depth on quite a "project"... Still, I hope someone rescues this car and puts it back together... Although I kind of doubt that "$10K of brand new FORD OEM parts" would be enough to get this back on the road...

Chris.

Very cool glad to see it back in one piece, it was on display at Bob Bell Ford last summer when Steve was visiting the Show and Dealership. Do you own all those cars you have listed?? If so nice collection.

Great project!

Have you contacted SMS regarding the model specific hood, front bumper cover and seating? They should have everything in-stock.

Sold them all in November, I didn't know why till the SMS Mustang popped up on Ebay in February. I've owned OVER 2000 cars in my life so far, and all but 3 of them were GREAT!!!! Don't ask about the 3 bad ones, I've already forgotten what they were!!! Currently I have a 1995 S351 SALEEN, and the 2010 SMS SALEEN. That's all I need for a while. Till maybe a 427 Cobra or another Shelby pops out of the woodwork again. Never know what life will bring to us.
I can understand that have fun with it and move on. The 351's are great cars and I will have one in the future. 3 bad out for 2000 those are good odds. You are gifted and have a great talent enjoy the SMS car, you had faith and vision when others passed it by.

Well done and congratulations! Not really a doubter, my comments were based on an eBay ad - so I'm not sure why you are taking it so personally. If you re-read my comment, you will see that I said "I hope someone rescues this car and puts it back together" - you did just that, so once again, good job....

why does this thread even exist if all the information the owner put is deleted. i understand some of his remarks were smart, but the info about the car and repair... wow, people have soft skin on the internet nowadays...

The admins did not remove any of the data in this thread. The user in question edited his posts and added the text "Post deleted by administrator."

If the admins were to "delete a post," we would delete the post. Not just the text. You can also see, the user was the last one to modify his posts, if the admins were to do so, the last edit would be marked with the admin.

So please, there is no JFK conspiracy here.

Thumbs down Bad poster

What a weird Guy ?! He Blast us for our discussion on us thinking that the $3500 that was payed for the salvage remains of the car was kinda high. (we did not even know the guy at the time) then he blows up and tell us in our face for doing great work?! And that was after we agreed what an amazing job he did- Some people...

Default Settle down everybody

I'm not a wierd guy. But I am human, with faults like everyone else. I suppose it's very difficult for some of you to imagine the volume of less than nice mail, downright nasty comments on message boards, and mis-information either posted or recieved concerning my purchase and restoration of the 2010 SMS Mustang #05. The car is all repaired. Everything is finally working properly. I LOVE driving the car around, it gets ALL the comments and stops people in it's tracks where ever it goes. And basicly I've had fun fixing it and learning how the newest Mustangs go together and how they work. The car now has over 2500 miles on it, I've driven it up to NY and back to visit friends, I know you would all like to see restoration photo's there is 45+ pictures of progress of repair from the day it got delivered to my shop to the day It went to FORD to get programmed and started up on it's own. Alot of the repairs were ez, but there were certain things that fought me hard till the bitter end. I managed to SAVE the original engine, but it ALMOST blew up in the first 200 miles of driving, one rod bearing completely wiped out and the rod wore half way thru the crankshaft before it ever made a peep of a noise. I'm sure the fire didn't cause this. I had to put a new crankshaft in the engine, and some new rod bearings, but it's been fine ever since. Original Tranny saved, yes the shifter knob survived just fine, new/used interior, new front fenders, nose and hood. Yes 10K worth of New Ford parts fixed the car. Along with about 5K of perfect USED parts off fresh wrecks. I'm going to drive the wheels off this car, and love every moment of it. Email me privately if you want to see more.

I would much rather see someone bring a car back to life than have it end up in the boneyard. Enjoy the car! Post some pics when you can.

I don't think you are weird, and I am sorry about the PMs and postings. Since this is a moderated board we try very hard to keep it family friendly.

I am impressed with what you did and very glad you saved the car. To each his own, enjoy the car.

I have got to say that 2000 cars is more than I would ever expect from anybody, collector or otherwise. I don't even know any museum that has had that many cars. Certainly not from Nashville, and I know the Tennessee Mustang community fairly well. Sorry, I call shenannigans here. I think someone is pulling our leg here.

I think Hot Rod Harry has owned 2,000 vehicles. He has a high turnover rate.

Well, you have now met someone who HAS owned OVER 2000 cars and I have a stack of paperwork to prove it. I can prove I owned at least 400 Mustang GT's alone. Nobody is pulling your leg. And I used to live in New York, and ran a place called "THE 5.0 SHOP". Sold it in 2000 to go professional racing. Life has been interesting so far. I've owned 48 Toyota Camry's in the past 3 yrs, how's that for numbers in Tennessee? HAHAHA
Anyone who want's to see the restoration photo's of 2010 Mustang SMS 460 Can check out the facebook restoration pages.

Hey Oxford, go ahead and post a few of the photos up again. I drove the SMS Mustang to Daytona ROAR Practice last week, and as usual it basicly stopped people right in their tracks to take photo's. People were at my HOTEL taking photo's of it!!! AMAZING!!
