Default Help: Insurance claims - 01-0720 may be gone

Guys, About a week ago my Saleen caught on fire. I have not heard back from the insurance company yet as far as whether it is totaled. I assume it will be.

Story,
I changed the oil in the garage. Everything went fine, no leaks etc.
I drove the car about a mile and a half to a car wash to scrub the wheels really well and rinse it off. This was an easy cruise, no abuse.

I get to the car wash and shut it off...wash and rinse and pull it outside of the bay to dry it off. After 15-20 minutes I start it up and it idle surges for a few seconds. I figure something water related as it has a Cobra hood.

I give it a little gas and it levels for a second and then backfires. I look out back as I have never heard it backfire in close to 8 years. I look back up front and 12-14" flames are coming from passenger side vent in hood.

All of this above took 4-5 seconds.

I shut it down and pop the hood latch. I'm now in disbelief as I watch my beloved car burn. I call 911 from a cell phone which takes me to the wrong county dispatch center. ****!

A guy runs up with a small chemical extinguisher and we put it out.
As the fire department rolls up, it bursts back into flames. (bigger now)

The extinguisher is empty and the fire fighters are taking their good *** time getting their crap off the truck and spraying some **** water on my car.

They get it out, after some jackoff pries the crap out of the hood with a haligan tool. ( I have been a cop for 20 years, I think it was out of spite)

It was obviously fuel related, as it burnt strong. The passenger side of the engine compartment took the brunt. The flames bunt through the wheel well and down the passenger door. The firewall/wiper cowl is melted.
The blower spins freely.
Last May I had the motor forged with 04' Cobra crank, Manley Rods, Ross pistons.
I give the insurance company a list of $16,924 worth of improvements and upgrades on top of the price of the car. By VIN my car is N/A.

The average blue book (for N/A) is around $15,500 and high is $21,600 I believe.

Has anyone on here had any experience with insurance, payout amount, rebuild or buy back and sell. I put $7,200 in the motor, clutch, gears, gauges last May.
The motor has 1,700 miles on it since the forged rebuild. It has a Series IV with all supporting mods. Made 376/393 to the wheels before the motor work.
What would it be worth to sell it to someone? I have had several "I'll buy it from the insurance company" on the facebook page.

Any input/help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rod

Scroll down my page for a video of the second time it caught fire.

Excuse the cursing!

Plus side: All the plastic parts are harnesses can be found in a recycling yard given the age of New Edge Mustangs.

When my 02 got flood damage from sandy they gave me 22,000. This was a SC vert, they wouldn't offer me a salvage buy and they sold it at auction for like 14,000.

Unfortunately for me any fire is a done deal. Would not want it back as you are probably never going to get it back right.
As far as insurance goes I am not sure unless you had specific coverage over for your mods. If you did not have the coverage you may just end up with stock book value. I am going to be finding out how this process is going to work here shortly when I pick up my Saleen.
Who did your motor build and how long ago? Might have been something there that caused the fire and may have recourse there.

Did you have it insured as a Saleen specifically or did the agent just register it as a Mustang GT? Did you notify the insurance of the improvements and send them pictures so they could adjust your premiums to match the new value of the car? Did you get an insurance plan with a vehicle appraisal and an established replacement value. If none of these were done you will probably just get the value of a Mustang GT. Not to be harsh but insurance companies won't ask these questions up front and you can't assume that they are insuring your car correctly. You have to force them to create a coverage plan that specifically Covers your car and your upgrades and you can expect to pay extra for these adjustments.

The car was not appraised and insured with extra coverage.
They are working on a value now. They were going to contact Saleen to ensure it is real.
Anyone with Saleen contacts...Erie Insurance should have been in contact in reference to my car 01-0720.

They understand that it is not just a GT. The NADA for an N/A (my was originally by VIN) $15,500 average and $21,900 high retail.

I gave then a list and receipts for $16,924 in upgrades and work. Basically the amount it would take to make a 2001 N/A S281 like mine.

I hope to hear a number soon, and then negotiate if needed. I am looking for high retail. Shy of some minor paint imperfections, my car was spotless.

If I can buy it back, I may sell it whole or part it out.

I think my next toy will be a Terminator, and swap some cosmetic parts.

I hope you had GAP insurance. That's the same problem I had with State Farm. They wanted to pay what the VIN number lists as which was 1990 Mustang LX 5.0 instead of a $42k Saleen SC. My gap policy is the only thing that saved me, even though I had a "stated value" policy with State Farm they still welched on it!

Did it have aftermarket fuel lines, and rails? or just stock?

I hope the insurance will pay you a reasonable settlement

Had factory fuel lines, but GT supercar pump.

They paid a little over $19,000. I bought the car back for $2,700.

I don't have the time and space to part it or tear it apart and fix it.

I'm selling it to a buddy. He had the clone that my Series I came from. We have spent alot of time under the hood and he has loved the car since I got it.

He has an '04 Terminator with a 2.8 KB.

This will be just fixed and driven. He has a big shop area so he is going to take his time and bring it back to glory.

Bought the family a white 2011 Mercedes Benz C300 4matic.

The wife is very happy with her new daily.

I'm gonna save up and find a built 03-04 Terminator.

Sad to see it go, but glad it isn't going to the crusher.
