Default Parnelli Jones speedo recall

For all of you that own PJ's. The instrument cluster may show less than what your actual speed is and may result in speeding tickets.

From my experience, most were off by about 7 mph at around 60-70 mph. The best way to check is with a GPS.

I would think so. That would mean that your showing less mileage on your odometer than your car really has.

I doubt that would be covered under warranty as I just hit a year with my PJ But thank you for the info!

I'm sure they will still cover it. Call the warranty Dept. at Saleen and give them the TSB #

got a ticket heading to the midwest muscle car challenge at Putnum park IN. Thought I was running 75 in a 70. Surprised to hear I was doing 81. After the events I verified with GPS 6mph over. I can't believe I put 7,500mi. on it, and just got my 1st ticket. I always run 5mi. over. Do you still have to send in the speedo, and do you send it to the new Saleen. The PJ was very balanced on the track.

Welcome and yes!!! The speedo goes back to MJA/SPV for repair. My PJ still needs this service performed.

That's a bummer about the ticket. You might try to fight the ticket with the documentation that the speedo was miscalibrated as a manufacturer defect. 75 in a 70 is better than an 81 in a 70.

Nice to hear about your track experience!

Unfortunately the company is not proactive about getting this done for PJ owners -- you have to submit proof that it's off.

But it's nice to hear about your track experience!

When I had my Watts Linkage recall fixed I inquired about the Speedometer and was told it would have to be removed and returned to Saleen, MJA, SPV or whomever was in charge at the time. So since the Watts took months of emails, telephone calls and letters to get parts and authorization to have it fixed I was not about to let my speedometer assembly be dismantled and returned. Been running ever since with it a 0 tickets.

Mine was taken out of the car, shipped, returned and installed in 4 days. I guess I was lucky.

Is your recalibrated speedo now accurate? I have been stopped three times, two of them by the same officer within a few minutes. That is how I found out about the recall. I knew I was not speeding, at least according to the speedo. The officer was furious. I tried to have the work done back then, (about a year ago) but the new Saleen was still in somewhat of a turmoil and I was told they were unable to do the work at that time.

A few months ago I was stopped again. I checked with Saleen again, and was told they could now do the work, so my local Ford dealer pulled the cluster and shipped it. It was back in the car within a few days. However, according to my GPS it is still off by at least 5 mph. I trust the GPS because I use it in multiple vehicles.

I have not had mine recalibrated. Part of the problem is the rear tire size, larger in diameter than factory 235/50/18 tires. The 285/35/19 tires would put our speedometers closer to the correct reading.

At 60 mph it reads 62. I checked it on an AAA speedo tester.

Checked mine today with the wife following. I was 6 over at 60 and 5 over at 40.

I guess the wife and I better pay attention.

My speedo has not been done. I have passed a few radar signs that show your mph. I was on or close but this is at 45mph. dead on at 30.

Trust Saleen with a part after how they botched a simple claim. Never.

And who exactly is Saleen now? They don't care about our cars.

Exclamation Saleen Speedo

Saleen Performance Vehicles certainly cares for the Saleen Vehicle owners, but cannot help the owners that DON'T call with questions or concerns about his/her vehicle.

Let me ask you a question do you ever even look at your speedo? The car feels so good going through the gears or on the road I can't tell you my speed when I drive it. I don't care if mine is off I don't want a dealership taking my dash out. It seems like you always get a rattle in the dash after that.

Default Speedo cal

I know this is a very old topic, and I bought my PJ used about 3 years ago.
My question is , has anyone ever had the speedo error corrected through the computer with a hand held tuner or add on device ? I understand a Ford dealer is not much help.
Thanks Mike

Hi
Not sure about hand held tuners but my dyno guy corrected mine when he was tuning it. Mine was off by 6 mph at 60
Pretty critical here in Australia some police will fine you 3 mph over limit "Government needs the money" and as always motorists are a soft touch.
Error was created when the gears were changed to 3.73 and not all PJ's were adjusted
