Default My New Ride: 94-0042 S351R Code

Hi, just wanted to post a few pictures of my new ride. This is my dream Saleen! I've always wanted an R code S351!!! I finally got one, I sold my last Saleen, a 1990 Triple Black with gold stripes and gold sterns to buy this car. It is an original R code with factory Vortech, gauge pod and 13" Alcons. It's Laser Red and black cloth interior. She has only 42000 miles on her. All original. I've upgraded the head unit to an S-Trim from the A-Trim and added a Mr. Freeze methanol kit for safety. The car was already upgraded with 42lb injectors and 255lph in tank and T-Rex fuel pumps. She has new BRGoodrich Sports Comp 2 tires, 245/40/18 up front and 265/40/18 out back on the original Lemans wheels. I am taking her Thursday for her first dyno tuning. Hoping to hit mid 550 or higher range. Here's a few pictures of her:

Beautiful car! Great find! Keep us posted on how the tuning goes. I'm curious since I want to do a few things to my car as well. Congrats!

I had a 96 triple black and I love this style... What makes these "R" codes different from other 351s?

Nice battery change, always one of the 1st things I notice, if there is a screaming green, yellow or red battery vs black, stock motorcraft look.

Great car! Enjoy!

An R code is a Factory built S351 with a Supercharge, 13" Alcon brakes and gauge pod on the dash.

Call Anderson Motorsports and put the Powerpipe on. It will unleash the beast George. A lot more effective than sucking through the factory straw set up.

I was looking at the Powerpipes yesterday and Im really wanting to put one on mine as well. I keep hearing how much of a diff it makes. Years ago we put one on my buddies 94 GT with a Vortech and it a made a nice diff in his car. I can only imagine what it would do on a 351 car. I just need to break down and order one lol

Huge difference on the S351R. If you really look how the the intake tubes come in on the Vortech factory set up is really, really choaked off. Add a meth kit to it and it jumps it up another level again. Both are really required and are minor mods. The meth kit helps in the absence of an intercooler set up, which of course the S351R does not have. Lowers intake temps and in places with the altitude or lack of are, it is a night and day improvement. It just stabilizes the system so tuning is more predictive and more concise.

Helped on my car immensely as two years ago on a 91degF ambient day at around 6,000 ft, here in the Rockies, it dyno'd a very safe, dialed back tune of 579 rwhp and 641 rw-tq . That is very serious power when you calc back to motor with drivetrain losses (18%) and then overall power losses taking place at attitude (20% to 25%) at this crazy altitude and no air. If I brought it to sea level and on a cool day to dyno, it might peg the dyno. Ha! Ha! Mine looks factory on the outside, but has a fully forged 408 stoker kit, complete electronic, fuel system, Pullies, etc. changes to make those levels. At sea level, we are talking in the 700+ hp and near 800+ tq ranges, 100% safe tune. There was zero detonation at 6,000 ft and 91 degF ambient. Good enough for me!

Seriously to really get the power, it needs a full solution. The Powerpipe is a major improvement.

I've got the meth kit on her already. I also replaced the A-Trim with an S-Trim head unit and installed a 2.95 pulley. I'm only seeing 10lbs of boost but I know it's because of the bottle neck intake setup it has. How much of a loss of value is it to cut and install a power pipe do you think? Is it worth it in the long run?

I heard it was seen with smoke pouring out from under the hood! I hope he didn't pop the motor.

He didn't. Turns out he checked the oil before going to the drive-in in Fultondale and apparently didn't fully seat the dipstick back in the tube. Basically he was squirting oil all over the drivers side header. Not sure how much he burned/lost, but apparently is was boiling smoke. I talked to him about it and he seemed to be pretty embarrassed about it.

I wouldn't be too concerned about a loss in value George, especially with a mod that small. I'd do it, but my car has several mods and is no where near original. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Glad he didn't hurt it! Yeah under boost that car will push oil out the dipstick if it's not seated properly.
