Q: Preparation for Road Course
I want to take my 2006 Saleen to the road course. What are top 4-5 things I must do or upgrade before hitting the track? So far I know:
1. upgrade brake fluid 2. install tow hitch

Upgrade your brake pads so you don't have any fade on track. I've run Hawk HPS for several events with no issues, but there are many others to choose from. Since you are going to bleed out all the old fluid for some new high temp stuff it might be a good time to also upgrade the brake lines to DOT braided stainless ones.
You'll also want to get some ideas on what your caster, camber, toe settings should be. I found out that on my car the inside edge of the tire gets destroyed on track. So having a good track alignment will help your tires wear evenly, heat evenly, and last longer. If you don't already have a set of adjustable caster/camber plates you might want to consider them as it can make it easy to set for daily driving and track events. I have a common list of things that should be done before every track event. The other things I'd suggest are just based on the age of the car and not knowing your maintenance habits. Since you'll be running full boogie in probably 3rd gear for like 20 minutes you'll want to make sure all fluids are up to the task...so fresh oil, trans fluid, and diff fluid.

Brake fluid and a full bleeding cant be stressed enough. I use Castrol SRF (very expensive). Here is a handy chart of wet boiling points.
https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/gr...pID=BRAKEFLUID Dont forget to bleed the clutch, so that stays functional in the heat it will see. As mentioned, "street" pads will not survive the heat from the track. When at the track also pay very close attention to your tires, and their pressures. If the tires are questionable, consider new ones, and dont be surprised if they are junk after, and need to be replaced again. You will also want to "nut and bolt" the car before going, to be sure your suspension is all tight, and ready for the track. All are the the minimums to make the day, safe, and fun! |

Some repetitiveness but here goes:
Bleed entire braking system including clutch and ABS master w/ DOT 4 (We use Motul 600) Inspect Pads / install appropriate temp pads based on desired track Steel Braided lines front / rear are a must (replace after 5 years) Check all bushings and suspension joints / parts Change Oil, run 10w30 or 10w40. Since we installed your SC go 10w40 USE A HIGH QUALITY FILTER (Ford Racing or K&N) Check Coolant and coolant mixture. (If your still running our coolant your good to go) Make sure to REMOVE anything not attached to the car Torque to yield EVERY bolt underneath the car with a calibrated torque wrench Inspect hoses from underneath Inspect Exhaust system Torque wheels before every track session Change fuel filter Thats all I can think of at the moment.
