Default Supercharger oil level

My car has being doing a couple of things that seem odd. I started my car today and after driving around throughout the day my car never idled down to below 1k RPM. Once warm it typically idles down to about 750. There also seems to be a rough, almost grinding noise coming from the supercharger. There isn't anything noticeable while driving other than the higher than usual idle but i can hear a very faint rough noise. I looked under the intake part of the supercharger and noticed some old dried oil on the intake manifold. It seemed to be coming from where the supercharger meets the intake manifold. I am curious on how you go about checking the oil level on my supercharger. Could low oil level be the cause of my situation?

Also what type of oil do these superchargers take and how would I go about changing it out?

Thanks everyone!

You can get a dipstick for your sc. Just go to any ford store and they can sell you the oil you need

Sorry we missed this. We can service the supercharger for you. Sounds like a bad bearing based upon what you said.

If you have a series 1 like myself, you will find that you have to actually pull the entire intake off(don't forget new intake gaskets!), then turning the blower upside down you can get the allen oil-plug loose. remove all the oil, then refill (supercharger oil from GM, or I use 5w-50 mobile 1 via recommendation from Steigmeier Superchargers.)

To properly fill the blower, add oil with the blower upside down until the oil level just touches the last threads in the plug hole. Then put it all back together. The process really isnt hard at all, I can pull the blower, change oil, and put it all back together in about 3 hours in my driveway with basic tools.

As for the noise coming from the supercharger, I actually just went through what I thought was a worn snout bearing. It was actually the pulley getting loose, which I blame on the cold weather driving. It started as a groan, then moved to a knocking at idle. Make sure the pulley is tight.

Another good measure to take while you have the blower off, is to replace the snout seal, coupler, and bearings. I prices the entire snout rebuild kit w/ oil from zzperformance for about 70 bucks shipped.
