Default New owner: 98-0039 XP8 made it to its new home

Bought a great XP8 and now it's getting some TLC.
I'll be posting pictures when I start getting some stuff accomplished.
Looking for someone that has a rear hitch cover they can take some measurements from. I'm a mechanical engineer and I have access to a 3D printer. I would like to make a replica cover.

Those are tough to come by but I know several people on here who have one and will hopefully share that information. Many of the XP's are missing that part. For that reason, if you make several extras, I am sure you will have some takers.

Hopefully someone can share the information. I'm fairly certain I can come up with something close if I get some basic measurements of the tread pattern and hole size for the hitch

Waiting on a member here to PM me back about dimensions of the pattern and the dimensions of the hitch plug. Once that's completed I'll be making a batch of black ones

Looks like you are close to getting this accomplished. i am not sure what they used forthe pattern on the top but hopefully you can reproduce that is well. even though my rear bumper is slighting different and does not have the cover, i may be interested in one once i see the finished product. i am sure i will put it to good use one of these days. of the other 3 i have had, only 1 had the cover. good luck, this is a piece many XP owners will be happy to have.

Yes that's the pattern I'm using. I'm probably going to skip the removable cap though to keep the piece stronger

I didn't realize that part was so rare. My XP8 and the XP8 clone I bought both had them. Nice job on yours so far.

To make it like the original it would have to have the removable piece. That is the piece that either gets lost or stolen. But it is the way the trucks came. Just my .02.

Not being a ball buster just with all the engineering that you put into it making it 100% correct makes sense. Great job it is coming out awesome and although you have a very limited market as there are only 125 of these vehicles that will ever be produced everyone who owns one would probably want a replica. Now next we need some XP body kits in surplus!

I'm not really thinking I'm going to make money on it, I just need one! Once the work is done it will be no big deal to produce a couple more. I'm just getting them 3d printed in a flexible plastic.

I'm having trouble finding a rapid prototyping place that can do this affordably. I need to find a company that can do it around 50 cents a CC. The people that I have found that can produce it that cheap don't have a large enough machine to do the cover in one piece, I would have to split it.

Do you have a cad drawing of this? I have an engineer with a cnc machine nearby that probably could make these. Do you have the exact composition of the material and a supplier?

Long wait but I finally have a prototype, will be able to make in black plastic. Also working on a rubber version. This particular piece doesn't have all clips and fasteners

Looking forward to getting one these.
I appreciate the work and effort it takes to actually get things done. So many people talk about, very few follow through.
