Smile Thoughts on Saleen Conversions

Hello I am new to boards. I currently own a 1996 Ford Mustang GT. I have had this car for almost 9 years and its been a great joy to own, very little maintenance in keeping the car running like a whistle.

I always been a fan of the Saleen sn95 cars. Someone on my street use to own a real 1996/97 Red saleen speedsteer until he moved away and took the car with him. I always loved saleens and wanted to convert my 1996 GT into one. I have never seen saleen produce a DFG saleen in coupe fashion and thought it would be a great project. I want to have the best looking replica out there without trying to pose as the real thing. I know some have mixed feelings about this topic.

One question, do you know if Saleen still produces the 6 piece kit for these cars anymore?

Hi there and welcome to the forums!

We support clones and replicas. A number of members have "Saleen'ed" their Mustangs.

At the moment, no, Saleen is not reproducing exterior parts for the 1994-98 models. Original body parts can be found on craigslist if you search often.

Larger picture, it is difficult to recommend building a 1996-98 S281 clone when the real thing can be purchased for $6,000.00-$10,000.00. A project coupe or an ex-Budget rental will be an easy find.

Part of me would recommend finding a serialized 1996-98 S281 and repainting it Deep Forest Green, your preferred color.

Saleen Performance produced two DFG S281 Mustangs

1996 = 1 coupe

1997 = 1 convertible

I believe the coupe may have been posted on craigslist a few months back.

We are here to help with your build, future purchases, or Saleen search.

Saleen may have produced two coupes in 1996.

96-0023 - Had the optional roll bar and 3.55:1 gears. (This car may incorrectly be listed as black.)

96-0397 - Was an automatic.

Thank you! I love to be aboard and get to know everything about these cars. I thought DFG didn't exist in Saleen fashion but it does and I am impressed. I would love to make a replica one day. I have the heat extractor hood for Kaenen and s281 spoiler.

Thank you tennesseemustangperformance, I've kept it in great condition for a long time. I'm probably only one of the few in area having one this mint.
